(this documentary is also known as Return of the Thundering Herd)i
thought this was a good documentary.it was well done all around.i liked
the fax that the filmmakers interviewed interesting people that were
relevant to the event depicted in the documentary.i've found that that
isn't always the case.the documentary is basically about the 1970
Marshall College Football team, almost all of who perished in a plane
crash on their way back home.as well as the team, the coaching staff and
several community leaders also lost their lives.the documentary also
gives some background in to the team before the crash.it shows how the
town lived and breathed the team.and of course it details the aftermath
of the crash and the effect it had on those who,for whatever
reason, were not on board the plane that fateful day as well as family
members and friends left behind.these people are interviewed, and you
can tell the impact the tragedy had and still does to this day.the
documentary is very touching, without being maudlin, and is done in a way
that is not horribly depressing.it is sad for sure and tragic, but the
filmmakers also focus on the good that came from the tragedy.,which i
will leave up to you to watch..also,they talk about the team
today.overall,a fascinating documentary which inspired the movie We are
Marshall.anyway,i hope people read this comment and check the
documentary out.i give Return of the Thundering Herd a 4/5.

Ahes To Glory is a wonderful documentary of the return of the Marshall University Football Team. It is accurate in description of all that happened to that team and the painful grief of all of us who lived in Huntington, had been students there and was a fan of of Marshall Football.

This DVD tells what actually happened. It has interviews with the actual head coach and others who were there. No Hollywood hype or fiction.
5.0 out of 5 stars patience with players Oct. 22 2013

This is very good. It clears everything up that was left up in the air. We had a student from this town on the team and he was on the plane. The coach who came on to bring the team back to life had a heart for football and he was very patient with all the new players.
5.0 out of 5 stars Story of Marshall University Nov. 23 2012

This movie is about how the Marshall University rebuilt their football team. It is an informational DVD, not a movie. VERY worth watching.
