5.0 out of 5 stars A very strange revolution....typically, Jun 28 2005

I've loved everything I could get of Nina's since the self titled album. This album is typically strange. Really it starts off with a country and western sound (in a kitsch way). Moving into ballad form with "King of Hearts", then pop trash "Pillow Talk", blues with "I'm Gonna Live the Life" and then finishing with I think the first of her Indian inspired work with "Omhaidakhandi".

It's very listener friendly and I think most Nina fans would enjoy. The CD cover is just total kitsch, Nina in a black rubber outfit, pigtails, tied to a chair in front of a pink vinyl wall with green drapes!! What else would you expect????

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredofabulotastic!, Sep 22 2006

If you are a Nina Hagen fan, this is one of her best. This CD is probably the most commercial one she's done but also has excellent production, writing and of course, singing. The songs:

1. So Bad--this was a hit in Europe and is really cool for a mid-tempo pop/techno song. Nina sings about the evils of the world, from diet soda to television. You can catch the very intriguing video for this on her website.

2. Revolution Ballroom--a catchy mid-tempo pop/rock stomper about spirituality and the state of the world.

3. Right on Time--very bluesy and spiritual guitar tune. Nina comes across as someone who believes in the universal truth behind all religions and she uses imagery from christianity, hinduism and more.

4. Pollution Pirates--a very addictive pop-reggae tune about Greenpeace and all the environmentalists hunting down the evil corporate polluters of the world.

5. King of Hearts--this song really, really grows on you and then you can't get it out of your head. An astoundingly beautiful lovesong.

6.L'Amore--a more subtle, soft love/bedroom song that builds to a stirring climax by the end.

7. Pillow Talk--I'm not crazy about this one, a very silly techno dance song about, um....pillow talk. Features L.A. famous for nothing starlet Angelyne.

8. Berlin-- This song is amazing, mostly not in English, but vibrant, feisty, jazzy and apparently about the wonderful city of Berlin.

9. I'm Gonna Live The Life--my least favorite song on the album. Nina gets on this jag of wanting to be a bluesy old black woman, but it doesn't really work.

10. Gypsy Love--This is my fave song on here! If you like quirky, funny, fun songs that make you wanna shake your butt, this is the tune for you!

11. Omhaidakhandi--this is the most beautiful song, full of Hindu chanting, but also with a great beat. Spirit music you can dance to!

I had to search high and low to find a good price on this CD, but it's worth it. Totally incredible!

I can't say I'm a huge and longstanding fan of Nina Hagen although I've heard her music for years and have always known who she is. On a whim I started looked high & low for this cd and for whatever reason it's hard to find considering it was a more commercial sound for Nina Hagen which is a departure for her but shows her talent to musically reinvent herself. Even so, I think this entire release is excellently crafted from beginning to end lyrically, musically and in production quality. Nina showcases a wide range of styles, vocals and genres which goes to show you she is definitely a talented woman (not to mention under-rated) and has a lot to say (always has) with her lyrics and song choices. All around 'Revolution Ballroom' is phenom and beautifully done and I personally love every song.
