I own this CD and here's what I think, Déc 8 2005
This album starts off with a track called Creation & Destruction, in which Immortal Technique introduces himself through the processes of creation of the universe and our earth, albeit it in very entertaining descriptions. The next two tracks are very good indeed with every single line he spits is memorable. What sets Technique apart from other rappers is that his lyrics are very well thought out and researched. When he says in Dominant Species "I drop knowledge so heavy it leaves the world unbalanced", he ain't kidding folks. You can tell he is an intelligent person, and his lyrics, often shocking and disturbing, make you think. His insighful references to world history, physics, psychology, philosophy, and religion among others, keeps you on your toes and makes you want to stop the cd and rewind to hear what he just said. I especially love this line"I jerk off inside books and give life to words, leaving concepts stuck together you probably never heard" hahahah, it's just great cause it's so true. You might actually learn something here. Before Technique started writing actual songs, he won countless New York battle champtionships and is known to completely destroy his opponents verbally. This album to some degree is like a battle, and his opponents range from poser rappers, to the government, to vegetarians (listen to Beef & Broccoli, it's pretty hilarious!). But don't get me wrong, this album is called Revolutionary for a reason: Technique is fighting a battle against oppression of his people, namely blacks and hispanics all across the world, and he's bringing you the message through hip hop. This is exemplied in the track "Poverty of Philosophy", where he explains his ideas over a very sick backing track. Other amazing tracks include "The Prophecy", "Revolutionary", and "Dance With The Devil", with the latter being a carefully crafted story about a young man who leads himself through a sad and violent path to his own destruction. Be warned, it's not easy to lisen to and there is a very shocking revelation towards the end of the song, worth the price of admission right there folks. In conclusion, Immortal Technique is a very unique and talented rapper and you won't regret buying this cd. It's very 'raw' because it's underground hip hop at it's best. Technique can carry a song all by himself, there is no doubt, but all of the guest appearances, which he considers as his family, are good as well. All around a worthwhile debut album that you will rap along to if you can keep up. If you thought Eminem was 'raw and contraverial' think again. This man is the real deal. Also, check out Revolutionary Vol.2, a true hip hop masterpiece.
