Not a book that I would recommend.,

This review is from: Revolutions and Struggles for Justice in the 20th Century (Paperback)
There is a lot of good historical fact in this book and the author has done a lot of extremely good research. That is what makes it especially disappointing and frustrating that the analysis of this history is so poor. On page 486 it says "Regardless of their conflicts, feminists of all persuasions are allied, as are antifeminists". This is nonsense. You cannot isolate feminism from the rest of society, and the interests of the 'haves' and the 'have-nots', whether they are women or men, vary greatly. In the end, after having actually given countless examples that would prove the point, the author seems not to understand that only within a society geared toward some level of general equality for all, will equality for women be possible.

Have purchased and read all 4 books, covering pre-history to the present. I cannot find words to describe how impressed I am with the scholarship. Not an easy read but something everyone. particularly women, should study. Thank you, Marilyn French.
