I love Rick Steves for his practical information. My only issue with his books is strong emphasis on churches, museums, and art to the exclusion of other attractions. Yes, he covers other attractions as well, but if a particular town, city, or village doesn't have a significant church or museum, there is little information given. All in all, his are the most interesting and readable guides out there and I highly recommend them. Worth spending the money.

I really appreciated that he narrows down the sights worth seeing. The descriptions of accomodations give you a real feel for them, and he gives lots of suggested daily itineraries for particular areas. I will definitely buy his guides again.

I like the hand drawn maps in the book, it gives it a feeling of someone drawing a map with info just for you in mind. He touches on places that are off the beaten path to get feel of what ireland is really like and he always stresses to talk with the locals. A great way to miss the tourist traps and see what Ireland is really like.

I would say this book is definitely worth the read before your trip and to help with some plans, but use as one reference, not your only one. Lots of great tips.
