Product Description

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Few on-screen antiheroes are as engaging as sociopathic convict Riddick, played once again by Vin Diesel in the film of the same name. The killer with the shining eyes is back once again, doing what he does best: surviving in hostile environments. The film picks up after the events of "The Chronicles of Riddick," where the character killed the Lord Marshall and took control of the Necromongers, a devout religious cult dedicated to finding the mysterious Underverse, a collection of dark stars believed to hold life through the promise of death. Riddick's only goal is to return to his home planet of Furya, once decimated by the Necromongers during their zealous campaign of destruction and conversion. He strikes a deal with the ambitious Vaako (Karl Urban) to return him to his planet, in exchange for giving Vaako control of the Necromongers. When Riddick arrives on a desolate planet, he quickly learns that it is not Furya, and that he has been betrayed by Vaako and his team, led by the formidable Krone. Riddick kills his would-be assassins just moments before Krone causes a landslide which sends Riddick plummeting off the edge of a cliff, and left for dead. Marooned on this hostile and barren planet, Riddick is forced to survive by analyzing his environment, learning its dangers, and taming its threats. When Riddick notices that a severe storm front is moving in, he travels away from it and inadvertently locates an empty mercenary station where he is able to activate an emergency beacon which alerts several mercenary groups to his presence, who scramble for the chance to apprehend him for a massive bounty. Two antagonistic teams arrive at the station in competition against one another; a fact that Riddick plays on to great advantage.Read more ›

It's a shame, the fans were clamoring for more Riddick, and Mr. Diesel was enthusiastic about delivering again. But, it's a remake of "Pitchblack", and most of the time it's so hard to see what's going on (maybe my eyes are too old). As a matter of fact, I had difficulty staying awake because it was too dark to figure out what was supposed to be happening. Funny that Amazon shows Karl Urban as the lead actor in this movie.

Riddick delivers and exceeds all expectations again.
Now much older and in poorer shape he struggles to survive and in this sequence he comes closer to the Pitch Dark in some aspects of his personality. Finally got all three movies in my DVD collection and would recommend this show to anyone who wants to see something above the league in comparison to any other shows out there. The way to go Vin Diesel :)

Kept me wanting to see more than they delivered but still pulse pounding watching the plot unfold. Some very strong characters and roles being played by the many bad guys showing their talents. Great action film that will keep you entertained and wishing it would continue on.

I bought this on the strength of the prior two Riddick movies, and the first thing they do is abandon the Necromonger storyline, drop Riddick on a planet, and then put him up against the planet, some local fauna, and a (predictably) over-matched, underwhelming pair of merc teams with the predictably usual plot developments.

Consider, for instance, that this is a character survived Crematoria, and then took on - and beat - the leader of the Necromongers, and now we're looking at Riddick vs some merc teams? It doesn't add up. Sadly, the backstory is that Universal decided to shelve the Riddick character after "The Chronicles of Riddick" didn't do well, so the the original creatives got the rights back and produced Riddick, which means the follow-up stories and movies will be vastly scaled back.

On the plus side Riddick develops an interesting master / pet relationship with a local animal, one of the merc teams had a redeeming reason for being there, there's some unexpected plot twists, and Katie Sackhoff does a good job reprising her hard-scrabble characters along the lines of BattleStar Galactica and Longmire.

Overall I give this three stars as a "meh" movie - it's worthwhile if you can get it for around $10 and have an afternoon to spare or something else to do while it's playing.
