Product Description

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Few on-screen antiheroes are as engaging as sociopathic convict Riddick, played once again by Vin Diesel in the film of the same name. The killer with the shining eyes is back once again, doing what he does best: surviving in hostile environments. The film picks up after the events of "The Chronicles of Riddick," where the character killed the Lord Marshall and took control of the Necromongers, a devout religious cult dedicated to finding the mysterious Underverse, a collection of dark stars believed to hold life through the promise of death. Riddick's only goal is to return to his home planet of Furya, once decimated by the Necromongers during their zealous campaign of destruction and conversion. He strikes a deal with the ambitious Vaako (Karl Urban) to return him to his planet, in exchange for giving Vaako control of the Necromongers. When Riddick arrives on a desolate planet, he quickly learns that it is not Furya, and that he has been betrayed by Vaako and his team, led by the formidable Krone. Riddick kills his would-be assassins just moments before Krone causes a landslide which sends Riddick plummeting off the edge of a cliff, and left for dead. Marooned on this hostile and barren planet, Riddick is forced to survive by analyzing his environment, learning its dangers, and taming its threats. When Riddick notices that a severe storm front is moving in, he travels away from it and inadvertently locates an empty mercenary station where he is able to activate an emergency beacon which alerts several mercenary groups to his presence, who scramble for the chance to apprehend him for a massive bounty. Two antagonistic teams arrive at the station in competition against one another; a fact that Riddick plays on to great advantage.Read more ›

I hesitated to buy this one because of Pitch Black that was very poor... But rather, it's on par with Chronicles of Riddick, and this deserves 4 stars. Most entertaining, the action is constant and there's no loss of time during the movie. The monsters are cool, the world where it happens is nice, and the actors are fine. Riddick could have ended the story fast and clean, killing everyone from the moment he took the energy cells and leaving this desperate world before the storm. But he didn't do it. I think he fell in love with the woman when he saw here naked, and this made him change his plan. Big mistake, because he almost lost his life in the way. But I beleive the story is more interesting like this. I will be waiting for the sequel. After all, he now owns a starship, and there are a couple of treaters that most pay for what they have done to him.

As mentioned from other reviewers, this is basically Pitch Black updated. As a matter of fact, one of the characters from Pitch Black actually ties into this movie. The movie opens with Riddick being left on a dead planet rather than crash landing on it. If you enjoyed Pitch Black you will enjoy this one. And of course, as in Pitch Black, there is a creature problem. And what's a Riddick movie without mercenaries. The twist is that Riddick signals the mercenaries to come get him so he can get off that dead planet.

Blu-ray is excellent with enough extras if you're into that. Usual "Making of..." stuff, the "World of Riddick", "The Twohy Touch" and more.

Bottom line; if you're only a so-so Riddick fan don't bother because you will feel like you've seen it all before. However, if you liked Pitch Black and want more of that, then this is for you.

Tired of being a ruler, Riddick (Vin Diesel) decides he wants to return to his home planet, only to be double crossed. In the first few minutes of the film Riddick displays his toughness by setting a broken bone in his own leg...then he puts screws in it. He makes friends with an alien dingo. Eventually he goes up against only eleven seasoned bounty hunters...and we know how that goes.

The special effects were decent. The dialouge meets our tough guy expectations. Good mix of drama and action, with a touch of levity. The plot is very simple, Riddick vs. bounty hunters vs. alien creatures. Good popcorn film.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, nudity (Katee Sackhoff + full frontal) sex talk.

It's a shame, the fans were clamoring for more Riddick, and Mr. Diesel was enthusiastic about delivering again. But, it's a remake of "Pitchblack", and most of the time it's so hard to see what's going on (maybe my eyes are too old). As a matter of fact, I had difficulty staying awake because it was too dark to figure out what was supposed to be happening. Funny that Amazon shows Karl Urban as the lead actor in this movie.

Riddick delivers and exceeds all expectations again.
Now much older and in poorer shape he struggles to survive and in this sequence he comes closer to the Pitch Dark in some aspects of his personality. Finally got all three movies in my DVD collection and would recommend this show to anyone who wants to see something above the league in comparison to any other shows out there. The way to go Vin Diesel :)
