Product Description

For the past two years, high school security guard Ben (Kevin Hart) has been trying to show decorated detective James (Ice Cube) that he's more than just a video game junkie who's unworthy of James' sister. When Ben finally gets accepted into the police academy, James invites him on a ride-along designed to scare the hell out of him and ultimately demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner's rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it. Also starring John Leguizamo and Laurence Fishburne, Ride Along is an action-packed comedy with big thrills and even bigger laughs.

The beginning months of the year are never the greatest time for comedic films, but you certainly can't go wrong when Kevin Hart is your lead actor. He's quickly rising to the top, starring in popular movies like "Think Like a Man" and "The Five-Year Engagement" in the past few years. Though his new movie "Ride Along" never surpasses some of his more funnier work, that isn't to say it's not good. It had me laughing throughout, and I'm betting it will do the same to you.

The story centers around Ben (Kevin Hart), a fast talking security guard who wants to marry his long-time girlfriend Angela. The only thing standing in his way is her brother James, played by Ice Cube, a decorated police officer who isn't exactly fond of him. In order to prove he's worthy, Ben is forced to go on a ride along and is quickly wrapped up into the scary crime-scene of Atlanta. As you can imagine, the hilarity ensues.

This definitely isn't a movie to take too seriously, just sit back and enjoy it. Hart easily carries the film and provides most, if not all, of the laughs. It may not be the greatest comedy out there, but it would make a killer Friday-night rental. Rated PG-13 for violence and language, "Ride Along" is fun and entertaining.

Another light humour movie. Cube and Hart do work well together - but it could probably have been pushed a little further. This pairing reminded me of the 5th Element contrast between Bruce Willis and Chris Tucker.

Yes there is some predictable humour - but you go into watching Ride Along wanting to be entertained... and it does a reasonably good job of it. There are some spots that were truly worth a great chuckle (don't worry I will not spoil it by describing them here).

Worth a Wednesday night viewing (only three stars though).

Would I watch it again? No (once is enough)
Would I recommend it? Not highly recommended... but worth watching for a good light chuckle or two
Would I purchase it? No (not a bad movie, but not inspiring me to keep it - either).
