About the Author

Dante Gonzales is a filmmaker, chef, and party promoter whose mission is to infuse everything he does with his signature fusion approach to cuisine. Dante's food is always the centerpiece of his parties, which combine his unique culinary voice with the vibrant music and art scenes of New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin.

Dante was raised in his grandmother's kitchen, learning the recipes she once served to jazz royalty. Her eclectic fare was prepared using whole, natural, and fresh ingredients. When money was scarce, she found alternatives to traditional ingredients; for example, in the absence of fresh flour, Grandma Jean would stretch her breading mix with ground oats and leftover crumbs (of many varieties!). Dante has spent the last ten years perfecting this heirloom cuisine while curating scene-defining live events around the globe. As a result, he has a massive online presence, and he and his food are frequently featured in print and on TV.

Dante is amazing and his food is an extension of his amazingness. The book is full of recipes that will make you thankful for the ability to taste and smell. The directions are way easy to follow and he's got plenty of helpful tips and tricks throughout the book to ease and make sense of cooking (especially for the culinarily-impaired like myself). I've attended several Dante Fried Chicken events and each time am just amazed that food can be so flavorful with such seemingly random ingredients and combinations. Dante's philosophy on food, how its grown, prepared, and served, makes this more than just a cookbook but a look inside the mind of a genius chef.
I highly recommend this book to those who like food. For those that don't, read the book and learn something.

I was fortunate enough to taste Dante's cooking (which was orgasmic to say the least) at a brunch event- which led me to purchase this cookbook. I bought one for myself and one as a gift. What I love most about this cookbook is that the measurements aren't timid. I'm not a fan of recipes that tell you to put a pinch of this, or a half teaspoon of that. Because basically the author is leaving the guesswork to me and I have to figure out the ratio of spices on my own. Which defeats the purpose of following a recipe. Like most people, I wouldn't notice a "pinch" of any ingredient. This cookbook is foolproof. You just have to do exactly as the instructions say. I made the brisket for a Christmas party and all my guests demanded to take home leftovers. Which sucked because I was left with zero leftovers! So basically the only downside to owning this cookbook is that people will eat you out of house and home. :)

Ride or Fry is a awesome addition to anyone's kitchen. My confession is that about a year ago me and my girlfriend had an amateur cooking contest at our house and your recipes, tips were a big inspiration which gave us 1st place. I am Puerto Rican but am also a student of the diaspora and its foods. Love that these tastes are very familiar. Not only to me. but are familiar to many. I really enjoy your creativeness. Keep up all the great work Dante.

I own 40+ cookbooks. This is by far my favorite. Great recipes to follow. It also gives you the encouragement to try something use your own ideas. I promise I'll make every recipe in this book. Buy it.
