I love the way Sacchi Green writes. I can get lost in her prose faster and more completely than anyone else's, I think. There's an intimacy and an etherial quality, even when the story is hard-edged. These stories would be erotic, even without the sex, and the sex is glorious.
I'd read several of these before, but that wasn't a drawback; it was, rather, like revisiting old friends and the ultimate reunion lay in reading the final story, "Alternate Lives." How wonderful, to open and close a collection with the same characters--to come full-circle.
As much as I loved "Alternate Lives," though, I think my favorite story may have been "Long Meg." Wow, talk about leading you down a path. My mind strayed to Alice and the white rabbit. I found myself saying, "Don't eat it," and then saying,"Don't eat that, either!" Of course, Sacchi beat me to it! Although I couldn't think of anything better to eat, at that point. (You're just gonna have to read it, I'm afraid...)
I've loved "The Outside Edge" since first reading it in Girl Crazy. "Dietrich Wears Army Boots" is a joy and I was thrilled to see "A Ride to Remember" here. I had the pleasure of reading it a while ago and am so happy it found a home in this collection. I'm not going to mention every story, just know that each piece in this book is stellar; a lovely book in which to lose yourself.
