This review is from: Right Through the Bone (Audio CD)
Skepticism is usually warranted with new recordings of obscure late romantics. Rontgen happens to be the exception, a discovery. With this CD one hears an agile composer with top drawer impetus all the way.

In the piano quintet you get a clear sense of thematic and rhythmic singularity shooting through the familiar. Rontgen moves with Haydn-like dexterity. (Speaking of familiar, am I the only one who flashed on NPR here?)

The viola sonata's andante mesto is strangely of itself. Rontgen is memorable throughout; the music has staying power. This originality clearly separates Rontgen from a host of second tier composers.

Performance and recording are outstanding.
