I did a fair amount of research and ultimately settled on the IIIS model -- looked like the newest model of a line of products that did what I wanted: turned my TV into a wifi-capable android device, allowing me to do all the same things I do on my Android tablet.

AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS -- THERE ARE KNOWN BUGS WITH THE DRIVERS.
***read this thread:[...]
It's indicative of how insanely buggy this product is. It even has a "Rikomagic" rep replying to customers and telling them that the big-fixing patch they need isn't available yet. A TON of people are reporting the exact same freezing / crashing bug.

Upon first plugging it in, everything looked OK; booted up quickly, connected to my wifi network, and I opened the browser...seemed easy and impressive. About 5 minutes later, the browser froze and crashed. I rebooted the device and the exact same thing happened. 60 seconds of functionality followed by freezing and crashing.

I went online and found the thread above, in which a Rikomagic rep gives some troubleshooting tips. Nearly all of the people complaining about product bugs inform him that his tips don't help. He never really replies to them. It would be one thing if I just got a clunker...but this product suffers from serious bugs, and the drivers / repair-files they make available DO NOT WORK. The drivers they claim need to be installed are incompatible with the device.

If this review saves any person the 5 hours of headache it caused me, it will have been worth it. Read the thread above and make your own conclusion. There are many more reviews on .com rather than .ca...go there for more reports of problems.

At first, the item was instable and i had to update the firmware to have it to work corectly. But 2 month later same thing happens. Now it won't even boot or do the update. Had to buy something new to throw this one away...

Bought this mini TV stick a year back and it has been sitting in the box ever since the beginning. Worked for half an hour and it started crashing. Searched on the internet and people was saying it needs a 2.1 Amp power adapter. Since I don't have a 2.1 Amp adapter so I tried every adapter I could find at home for my tablet to several smartphones. Everyone ended with the same result....keeps giving me a color screen after playing it for a while. Then read that people tried adding heat sink to the CPU (needs to open a hole in the middle of the case). Since I really wanted to try this new thing out at the time so have not RMA it back....big mistake. Now that I have bought heat sink and modified it, the result is the same. Still crashing and can't even use it as a paper weight. If you have extra money to waste, you can either call a friend to have a drink or buy this thing. Your choice.

Crapped out within 2 weeks of owning it. Would not recommend buying one. There are much better solutions to converting to a smart tv for less money.

overall, great product for streaming video, running apps,
one unfortunate flaw is that it has a rather weak wifi antenna.
in areas where my laptops, cell phones would pick up relatively strong signals. the ricomagic would not pick them up.
hence you need to be relatively close to your access points.(approx 20 feet and under as tested on a consumer grade access point)
as the version MK802IV Quad core is just being released perhaps has made some improvements to the Wifi antenna.

Hard to ask for more from such a small and affordable device! Worked perfectly. Worthwhile to look for version 4.1 instead of 4.0.
