I did a fair amount of research and ultimately settled on the IIIS model -- looked like the newest model of a line of products that did what I wanted: turned my TV into a wifi-capable android device, allowing me to do all the same things I do on my Android tablet.
AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS -- THERE ARE KNOWN BUGS WITH THE DRIVERS.
***read this thread:[...]
It's indicative of how insanely buggy this product is. It even has a "Rikomagic" rep replying to customers and telling them that the big-fixing patch they need isn't available yet. A TON of people are reporting the exact same freezing / crashing bug.
Upon first plugging it in, everything looked OK; booted up quickly, connected to my wifi network, and I opened the browser...seemed easy and impressive. About 5 minutes later, the browser froze and crashed. I rebooted the device and the exact same thing happened. 60 seconds of functionality followed by freezing and crashing.
I went online and found the thread above, in which a Rikomagic rep gives some troubleshooting tips. Nearly all of the people complaining about product bugs inform him that his tips don't help. He never really replies to them. It would be one thing if I just got a clunker...but this product suffers from serious bugs, and the drivers / repair-files they make available DO NOT WORK. The drivers they claim need to be installed are incompatible with the device.
If this review saves any person the 5 hours of headache it caused me, it will have been worth it. Read the thread above and make your own conclusion. There are many more reviews on .com rather than .ca...go there for more reports of problems.
