REVIEW FROM PITTSBURGHLIVE
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare

Fact-filled 'Ripley's book is fun for kids of all ages. By Terri Schlichenmeyer, FOR THE LEADER TIMES

You figured you could handle it. It was supposed to be the scariest movie ever. Ever, and you couldn't wait to see it. Really, you're a big kid and it couldn't be that bad ... But walking out of the theater, you were shaking, weak-kneed, and hoarse from screaming. There were parts of the movie you couldn't even watch, it was so scary. It gave you nightmares, for sure. And it was sooo cooool.

Now that you're back to Earth and sleeping again, are you ready for more thrills? Then grab a copy of "Ripley's Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare!" It's not quite as scary as that movie, but it's 20 times cooler.
What did other kids do with their summer vacations? Check it out: a kid in Germany climbs walls by using darts as hand-holds. A girl in Hawaii wins surfing championships despite having lost both arms to a shark. In India, they play polo atop elephants.

If you're an animal lover, you'll love this: there's a picture here of a hippo attacking an alligator. There are pictures of a spider killing a bird; a snake biting his own tail; a tiny pony; and a giant spotted, fanged kitty-cat. You can also learn how to keep wolves from your bedroom door by reading this book.
Do you have pierced ears? Then you might shudder at the picture of the man with over 150 piercings on his face and neck. Or maybe someone at school has called you a "shrimp". If that's the case, you'll like seeing the life-size fold-out of a 16-year-old Nepalese girl who's less than two feet tall!

Are you good at sports? Then try besting the boy who did over 50 chin-ups in a minutes' time. You can try to be a Human Ice Cube or live underwater. And if that kind of action isn't to your liking, learn what Dan Akroyd and Ashton Kutcher have in common; how the Ripley folks make mannequins; why you should never hurt a Sasquatch in Skamania County, Washington; how to eat balut (If You Dare!); or why NASA once made butt molds for astronauts.

You know what it's like to go back to work after a long vacation, and it's not easy. So ease your kids back into their school work by giving them this fun-to-read, eye-popping, fact-filled book.

"Ripley's Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare!" is one of those books that kids can nibble here, sample there, and enjoy while they're secretly learning. It's filled with pictures, oddities from Ripley's archives, animal weirdness, and strange things they love reading about. And if you grab it to browse or if the kids want to share something with Grandpa, that's OK. It's the same Ripley's brand that you remember from when you were a kid.

Meant for teens-and-up, I think an 11-year-old "good reader" would have no problem enjoying "Ripley's Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare!" If your kids are in need of back-to-school practice, here's a book they can handle

REVIEW FROM SHOOTING STARS
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare
Review: Most people should know what these books are about as a new one seems to come out every year. But a quick update is that it's a collection of amazing feats, artwork, stories, and more that they package up in a nice book for all to enjoy with bright colored photos!

To start off on the negative side, I hate photos of spiders. They give me the chills and I want to throw the book. So I tended to stay away from some of the beginning sections as it deals with all sorts of creepy crawly things. Besides that though, I enjoy the Ripley books. You learn all sorts of amazing and interesting facts.

For example, one of the smallest teens in the world is Jyoti Amge from India. She only stands 23.5 inches tall, yet still enjoys a life like every other teen her age. On the page, you can pull back one of the covers and it shows you a full-length, actual size picture of Jyoti which really gives you perspective on how short she is. But again, that isn't stopping her and that's great! She's even been in a video with Mika Singh, a singer from India.

One of my most favorite sections was Artistic License. I wish I could be creative in this sense, but alas, I must enjoy the work of others. Liu Bolin is the Invisible Man. He uses paint to make himself blend into the background of various settings. The pictures in the book are amazing, even showing him in front of a telephone booth in London. It said that many that walk by don't ever notice him!

Another wonderful artist is Erika Simmons who creates pieces under the name "Ghosts in the Machine." She takes old cassette tapes and makes art of famous faces. Below you see her creation of Jimi Hendrix. How amazing is this? I love music so I think this would be something wonderful to have of a favorite singer!
Finally, you have one of my absolute favorites that were featured. I've found so many great artists I'd love to know more about from this book, but Nicholas Hendrickx is just doing something so fascinating and talented, he has to be the highlight of this review. Mr. Hendrickx takes your everyday, common fly and puts them into his pieces. Voila! You get flies skateboarding, swimming in a ducky raft, and one of my favorites...holding an umbrella! Yes, this is pretty much magic the way he gets these flies to do his bidding!
To learn more about these fabulous artists, and learn a lot of other interesting things, be sure to pick up your copy of Ripley's Believe it or Not: Enter if you Dare.

REVIEW FROM BOOKGASM
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare

Like a carnival funhouse, RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT!: ENTER IF YOU DARE! dares you to come in, and you totally know you’re going to, no matter how many warnings are posted.
My kids love this series of hardcovers, because the photos are huge and capture all sorts of wondrous, gross, weird, disgusting things from the world over, such as six-fingered hands, a guy with 240 body piercings, a girl with an elephant face, people whose skin looks like overgrown tree bark, eyeball tattoos, sword swallowers, fried grasshoppers, cheese maggots and sculptures made entirely of hair.
In other, less-nauseating departments, you might find glowing tree frogs, a Hummer built of lottery tickets, a man who rips license plates in half with his bare hands, the contents of a vampire kit (I actually saw this one live at the Ripley’s museum in Branson, Mo. a couple summers ago), a refrigerator coffin, lingerie made of trash, bionic fingers and a pink dolphin.
If your children are into the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS books, pick up RIPLEY’S, too. They’re educational while being entertaining; they won’t even notice they’re learning something while grossing themselves out. —Rod Lott

REVIEW FROM DAD OF DIVAS
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare
The book contains a brand new collection of strange stories from around the globe. The cover has eye-catching purple and silver holographic foil with a central lenticular that shows sliding doors opening and closing to reveal a spellbound reader.

This book is great for the whole family who will love the mind-boggling array of incredible and bizarre facts, stories, interviews and features. New highlights this year include "Ripley's Revealed" features that give a behind-the-scenes look at subjects such as fire-eating and swordswallowing. Fascinating interviews with extraordinary people explore why they do what they do, while "Ripley Research" boxes explain the science behind some of the most incredible tales in the book.

Enter If You Dare also includes a dramatic double foldout section that throws light on the shady world of vampires, and two single foldouts— one a tribute to the Coney Island sideshows, and the other a lifesize photo of tiny teenager Jyoti Amge who stands just 23½ inches tall. With something strange to entertain and shock everyone, this new book, Enter If You Dare, is destined to be another great Ripley success.

My Take on the Book
This book will provide you with your fill of strange images, facts, things and people. There were definite times when I was reading through this book where I said, really? I was amazed at some of the bizarre natural phenomena that exists as well as the things that people do to be recognized. From a man who has tattooed his eyes, to two headed animals to motorcycles made of roadkill, this book is not always for the faint of heart.

This being said though, I did find the book interesting and fascinating and even my daughters were amazed at some of the things in the book. So with this being said, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes learning about the weird, strange and unreal, as this book truly delivers!

Believe It or Not! Ripley's does it again!! Aug. 11 2010
By J. Guild - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
As the years go by,Ripley's continues to publish better and better collections of the most unbelievable, but true, things from all over the world. There's no limit to what continues to amaze an entertain us ,young or old.
This is as good, if not one of the best "annual" books to come out.Ripley's continues to use the finest in construction, paper, printing and color rendition available. These books are so well made, that they will last for years and will be as good and entertaining in the years to come as they are today;simply because the things Ripley's find and bring to us are timeless.I have a large collection of Ripley's books and have enjoyed them since I was a boy in the 40's.Now I have my grandchildren enjoying them as well.
There is no need to talk about any of the interesting and amazing things you're going to find in this latest book;because if you've even read one of Ripley's books, you'll know what you'll find, and be amazed once again.
However;I must point out that I am pleased that Ripley's seem to given up on putting text over photographs and colors. This seemed to have little purpose, and only made for difficult reading. Thanks for small mercies.

A Job Well Done Aug. 24 2010

Ripley's Believe It or Not - Enter It If You Dare
Published by the Pattison Company 2010

Reviewed by: Dr. Joseph S. Maresca

This rendition has many oddities pictured all under a single
roof. For instance, a 12-fingered man is shown along with
a 22 inch man weighing only 10 pounds. Lionel ,
a lion-faced man is shown in full color. The strongman,
Joe Price is pictured bending solid metal between his teeth.

The elephant-faced girl is shown, as well as Chayne Hultgren
who swallowed 27 swords simultaneously. Another man is
pictured with a unique eyeborg which is a wireless bionic
eye. The Night Shadow Extreme Motorcycle is depicted
in all of its glory. Junior Fritz's work is displayed;
whereby, cardboard is shaped into human-like masks
from the inside of toilet paper rolls.

Mauri tribes of New Zealand mummified the tattooed
heads of warrior adversaries . Facial tattoos
known as TA MOKO are shown in full color.
Bone chissels were employed to make cuts in the face.
In the 18th century, Europeans began to buy the
skulls as artifacts. TA MOKO became so popular
that tattooed enemies were killed in order to supply
the market with fresh heads.

Builder Hu Zhuyin had a lucky escape after impaling
himself on a crow bar . The solid steel crowbar
sliced through the chest missing the aorta by less than
an inch. The full color picture shows Hu Zhuyin just
prior to delicate surgery to remove the crowbar.

A number of people are shown with very exotic skin
diseases from unique infections which look like
alligator features superimposed onto human skin.
The acquisition would be a perfect addition
to your library of curiosity books. The price is
reasonable. This purchase would make the
perfect gift for the student or "Believe It or Not"
enthusiast in your family, friends and personal
associates. The photos are well done , the coloring is
bright and some scenes like the Extreme Motorcycle are
spectacular.

New material every year - great for middle school kids Dec 9 2010
By P. Smith - Published on Amazon.com

This is the third year I've bought this book for my now 5th grader. He spends hours pouring over the pictures and reading the blurbs. It's a great book to buy as a gift for those hard-to-buy-for boys or to use for those 15-20 minutes of prescribed daily reading.
