Book Description

Jan 24 2012 Robbie Forester
Stephen King's "Favorite American Suspense Novelist" is launching a new series for middle graders

Robbie Forester always knew life wasn't fair, but she never thought she could do anything about it. Until one day a powerful charm comes into her possession, a charm that guides her, her three friends, and her dog Pendleton on the path to justice. But the charm doesn't seem to understand that the path has gotten dangerous, and Robbie and her friends find themselves in a menacing world of thievery, arson, big yachts, and even bigger bank accounts. Will Robbie and her band of thieves end up in more trouble than they ever could have imagined? Edgar Award–winning novelist Peter Abrahams weaves a tale of action, adventure, danger, and magic that keeps readers on the edge of their seats, guessing at every turn.

"Unputdownable. Memorable characters and a breakneck pace make Robbie Forester the total package." - Stephen King

3.0 out of 5 stars Robbie Forester and the Outlaws of Sherwood St Mar 7 2012
By teresa a. sopher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Robbie Forester and the Outlaws of Sherwood St is a rework of Robin Hood and his merry band of thieves. This band is formed of middle grade students, two boys and two girls. Robbie (Robyn), a new student at a private school, finds a bracelet with a heart charm after she stops to help a homeless lady she's had contact with before. As she befriends other middle graders, she, and they, become gifted with individual strengths. They take on a local landlord who's buying up leases and doubling rents so people will leave and he can begin developing the neighborhood. The kids have some trouble figuring out how to control the magic with which they've been gifted; the story leaves lots of questions that will surely be answered in a sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light, Quick Modern Version of Robin Hood Jan 21 2012
By Book Sake - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This version of Robin Hood is a light, quick read. That's about what I expected for the age range it's aimed at. The story was cute and entertaining and I think it would be liked by both boys and girls. We have Robbie our main character and three friends of hers (another girl and two boys) that we follow around. Magic powers come and go, but don't always seem logical for the story. If the powers always came when helping the kids do good or stay safe it would make more sense - winning a game, not so much. It's never explained where these powers come from and some of the things the kids do, while they are trying to be helpful overall, they just don't feel like the right thing to do at all times. While it follows the - steal from the rich, give to the poor - they don't know in full who they are stealing from, which causes the slight issue for me. Kids however might not even see this - just knowing that the one with all the money is bad, those who can't afford their terms and are being taken advantage of are good. Or parents can fill the children in on what's what and talk about the issues this book raises.

5.0 out of 5 stars 99% of readers will enjoy Occupy Brooklyn Jan 19 2012
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
In Brooklyn seventh-grader Robyn "Robbie" Forester leaves the subway on her way to school when she sees the homeless woman, whom she has given change to, looking even sicker than before. The woman recognizes Robbie even as the cops and ambulance take her away. Robbie picks up a charm bracelet the homeless person dropped, but her effort to return it is too late.

On the Thatcher girls' basketball team, Robbie sees a strange arc and shoots the winning shot by targeting the light. Later Robbie and her mom, who volunteer at the homeless shelter, learn that millionaire Sheldon Gunn is shutting the facility to obtain more rent from a different client. Gunn plans other closings while Robbie tells her teammate Ashanti and her former classmate Tut-Tut about the power of the bracelet. The three tweeners and Pendleton the dog become the Outlaws of Sherwood Street challenging Gunn.

The coach sets the tone when Ashanti receives an elbow to the head but the ref using a no blood no foul fails to call it with her comment that life is unfair so get over it. The whimsical storyline focuses on serious issues though targeted middle school children as Peter Abrahams scrutinizes income inequality due to legally rigged economic unfairness. Fast-paced, 99% of readers will enjoy Occupy Brooklyn by the modern day Robin Hood, Robbie Forester and the Outlaws of Sherwood Street
