4.0 out of 5 stars Go to Harbor Freight July 20 2008
By Jesse Prause - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this set in a woodworking store in Montana about five years ago and did some carving with them. They are good enough for hand carving but wouldn't recomend hitting them with a wooden mallet. They cut and held an edge well but some of the shanks came loose enough for me to spin them inside the handle after a while even though they were still fairly tight. I suppose that could be corrected by peening the steel band around the shank.
I was in Harbor Freight a few months ago and saw what seemed to be the exact same set but packaged differently for ten bucks. I'd just go there to be honest.
3.0 out of 5 stars Decent tools for the hobbyist to use on soft wood May 14 2012

For the money this is a decent set of tools for the hobbyist who carves soft wood. Not the best choice for hard woods although I have occasionally used mine since the late 1980s to carve gun stocks made from Hard Sugar Maple (Acer Sacharum), Red Maple, Walnut and Cherry but for this application a higher quality tool like Pfeil, Two Cherries or Henry Taylor is a better choice. For what I paid for these tools in the 1980s though, I have gotten good use out of them.
