Product Description

Amazon.com Essential Video

It's not Blazing Saddles, but there are some chuckles to be found in Mel Brooks's 1993 spoof of the Robin Hood legend. Cary Elwes is Robin (with a lighthearted jab at Kevin Costner's bad English accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), while Richard Lewis plays an angst-ridden King John, and Roger Rees a snotty Sheriff of Nottingham. Comic David Chappelle has some good moments as the only black member of Robins's noble thieves, and Brooks does his own spin on Friar Tuck: Rabbi Tuchman. The song-and-dance sequences featuring a chorus line of the Merry Men ("We're men / men in tights") is vintage Brooks, but otherwise the film can't get any traction. --Tom Keogh

Description

Cary Elwes stars as Robin Hood, the dashing defender of the down-trodden, who along with his merry men and Maid Marion, resides in Sherwood Forest. There they have become together to fight against the seriously neurotic Prince John, the not quite-evil Sheriff of Rottingham, and the mad scorceress Latrine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for this Hilarious Mel Brooks comedy, Aug 15 2001

"Oh look. It's Cary Elwes."

That was my line to my sister at the video store as she tried to choose between two films. We ended up with this one, and I have to say I could not stop laughing.

Although a sense of humor is appreciated with me, this was the first movie since I can't remember when that I couldn't stop laughing after I started. Usually I can stop when the first joke is over and begin again at the second, but I couldn't hold it back this time. This event took place during the Men in Tights song.

This was- brace yourself- MY FIRST MEL BROOKS MOVIE. I'm pretty sure it was the first. I must have watched it 6 times in my five day rental period, and I am now addicted to it and Mel Brooks (doesn't that Matthew Broderick/ Nathan Lane version of The Producers look fantastic??). That's pretty good for the movie, considering I only recommended it because the last movie I saw before it was The Princess Bride and I wanted more Cary Elwes.

Rent this movie. It will hit your sense of humor every time.

This is quite literally my favorite movie of all time. I know every single line of it by heart (sad as it is to admit it, I know all the sound effects too... lol) This is a hilarious movie, that I would definitely recommend to anyone. In the mood for a laugh? Then this is the movie for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Endless Laughs, Jun 15 2005

I believe that this is the funniest movie of all times. The reason that I like it so much is that there is always a new joke everytime you watch it. You cannot get all of them at one time. I have grown up watching this movie, and as I mature and attain a better understanding of the world around me, I hear more and more jokes, and old ones become just funnier! The only complaint I have is that it is not on DVD! VHS is in the past, and I don't even own a VCR. So please, lets all try and get this thing out on DVD!!!!
