Product Description

From Amazon.com

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. Originally released as Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Best Cinderella version ever! Mar 18 2012
Format:DVD
I love this version of the Cinderella story. It is funny (especially Jason Alexander, the ugly stepsisters and Bernadette Peters), romantic (Brandy is beautifully perfect), glamorous (Whitney sparkles) and the multiracial cast is very refreshing. The Rogers and Hammerstein score has been updated with new songs (hilarious "why does a fellow pick a girl like her...: sung by the step-sisters). I recorded this version when it appeared on CBC TV many years ago (around 1997-98?) and my daughters and I watched it over and over and have the songs committed to memory. I was so happy to see it was available on DVD, because although my daughters have now grown into adults, we sometimes watch family movies for old time's sake. Compared to the Leslie Ann Warren version from my childhood (all white bread and quivering victim), this version soars.

Great Musical...lousy sound Feb 25 2012
Format:DVD
I have always loved this story and the different versions. When this version was on TV it was great. The DVD sound is horrible. The Singing is echoy and taking or singing is overshadowed by the lovey orchestra. Too bad they couldn't strike a happy balance/

Great costumes and songs but sound unfortunately leads me to tell you not to buy it.

We loved this version of Cinderella. Dec 19 2003
Format:VHS Tape
For my kids this Cinderella is five stars. For both my 2 1/2 and 5 year old this is their favorte movie. My younger one sings her heart out with the video. It is the only video she wants to see at the moment. We are a multi racial-cultural family bought together thru living in various countries and adoption. As parents we enjoyed livly humor, the casting and the colorful art nouveau sets.

Utopia
A love of R & H music prompted the buy, but the use of diverse ethic casting is wonderful. Would be even more wonderful if the world could be this way...indeed it would be Utopia. Read more
