I love this version of the Cinderella story. It is funny (especially Jason Alexander, the ugly stepsisters and Bernadette Peters), romantic (Brandy is beautifully perfect), glamorous (Whitney sparkles) and the multiracial cast is very refreshing. The Rogers and Hammerstein score has been updated with new songs (hilarious "why does a fellow pick a girl like her...: sung by the step-sisters). I recorded this version when it appeared on CBC TV many years ago (around 1997-98?) and my daughters and I watched it over and over and have the songs committed to memory. I was so happy to see it was available on DVD, because although my daughters have now grown into adults, we sometimes watch family movies for old time's sake. Compared to the Leslie Ann Warren version from my childhood (all white bread and quivering victim), this version soars.
