1.0 out of 5 stars suspicious 'typos' Jan. 17 2012
By xina - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
just downloaded a sample for my kindle touch. on the first page, i found the following:

...'part of this publications ca be reproduced or transmited'... (did you find all 3 in this phrase?)

'hyerarchical'

...'just type the desired word bellow.'

...'may take e few minutes'...

this was so unbelievably off-putting that i could not continue exploring my sample. this is an english reference book?!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS one works on Kindle! Dec 17 2011
By Catherine Faber - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This one works for the Kindle. I initially bought another thesaurus which kind of worked, using the Kindle's search function, which returned a list of all the places the desired word appeared in the thesaurus.

But this one works much better. A list of possible words appears as I type. For example typing "hope" gets me a list starting with "hope" and "hopeful" and "hopefully" and working its way down alphabetically. I click on "hope" and get a list of locations for all the things I might mean by hope or a phrase containing hope. So "out of the question" ("past hope") is one spot in the book (an underlined number is given for this, but all you have to do is click on it), "hope" is another, "belief" a third and so on.

So I click on the number next to the word that best describes the use of "hope" I had in mind. I get either a full paragraph of synonyms, or a sort of meta-paragraph of a few synonyms, each with another underlined number that leads to a full paragraph of more synonyms. Exploring the options in the meta-paragraph is easy, as the back button always takes me back one step.

This thesaurus is obviously formatted for Kindle, and takes full advantage of the ability to use hyperlinks instead of repeating information. Using it is much faster than using my former thesaurus, because the find function always took 10 seconds or so, whereas with this it happens pretty much as fast as I can click.

It's a great resource for a minimal price; I recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing selection Aug. 29 2012
By Bevholm - Published on Amazon.com

I am a writer and wrongly assumed this was a digital version of the paperback Roget I normally use. It isn't. There is a much sparser collection of words. The first word I searched was "shard". Nothing came up except "shape" which it kept auto-correcting. I should have known something was wrong when I saw the glaring grammatical errors on the first page. Can't believe I paid good money for this and am sticking with the (bulky) paperback now.

4.0 out of 5 stars little flaws Oct. 11 2011
By W.H. Lin - Published on Amazon.com

The links of a word to synonyms are not very accurate. Sometime I looked up a word in N. form and it got me to that word in V. or Adj. form though still under the right entry. Besides that the navigation function works well.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's not what I expected it to be.... Nov. 24 2012
By Guillermo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm choosing this rating because I feel disappointed on how this product works. I was expecting a list of synonymous, antonymous, and words where the user (me) can find words related with the one that you type in the kindle browser as in the kindle dictionary. Guess what? You type a word and then Roget's Thesaurus comes up with a bunch of numbers and several words what are not related with the word that the user type... I feel I wasted my money and I have to keep using Thesaurus.com to get what I need. I don't know if I'm not used to the format in this Thesaurus or is not well edited. It's not easy to find what you're looking for in this book.
