Role Models for Hilarity,
By
This review is from: Role Models (DVD)
Most of what I want to say in this review, I can't. That's just the kind of movie this is. You should know what to expect when you see the very talented Paul Rudd, the hilarious Seann William Scott, and "McLovin" himself Christopher Mintz-Plasse on the cover. It's vulgar. It's crude. It has nudity. It also has fast paced witty lines and pop-culture references that keep the laughs coming repeatedly.Role Models is the kind of movie that I can watch pretty much at any time. Much like Tropic Thunder, Knocked Up, or Superbad it just always makes me laugh no matter my mood. If you like that type of movie, go for it. If you find that kind of movie stupid, overly vulgar, and annoying then stay away and grow a sense of humour. If you also happen to be a Kiss fan, much like Scott's character Wheeler, you'll be in ecstacy here. I won't spoil it for you except to say the soundtrack is loaded with Kiss hits, there's lots of Kiss-related humour, and you get to see four dudes wearing Kiss makeup. That's all I'm going to say. In supporting roles we have the very talented Elizabeth Banks as Beth, but just playing a stereotypical role here: The successful girl who's dumping her ambitionless boyfriend. In a far more interesting role is Jane Lynch, an extremely talented actress who's really had a lot of exposure thanks to Christopher Guest's films. Her ex-crack addict character is just the right amount of creepy and funny, a balance she pulls off expertly. There's also a young man named Bobb'e J. Thompson who has simply mastered the fine art of swearing. Where they found this kid, I don't know. Why his parents let him even read this script let alone say these lines, I don't know. I am however grateful that they did. You'll recognize lots of others from the Apatow-generation of comedy films in cameos, such as Ken Jeong and Joe Lo Truglio. They both play characters obsessed with a role-playing league called LAIRE (Live Action Interactive Role-playing Explorers). One thing about Role Models, despite its vulgarity, is that it actually has a really sweet heart to it. At its core, it's about friendship, support, and freedom to be who you are. With a lot of swearing and Kiss music. Some people would call it a "bro-mance". Sure, that works I guess, but the character of Augie played by Mintz-Plasse really has a heart to him that takes the film to a more character-driven place that we all can relate to. If you've ever just given up trying to fit in, you will relate. I enjoyed Role Models thoroughly, and I will continue to do so when I need to lauhh.

And you thought kids were a handful...,

This review is from: Role Models (DVD)
"Role Models" stars Paul Rudd and the always-excellent Sean William Scott as two 30-somethings still struggling to find their way in life. Boozing, womanizing, partying are still the order of the day, even as every one their age around them are living the married life. After an incident that puts them at odds with the law, they're sentenced to "community service" which ends up involving being a mentor to young children in summer camp. Much hilarity ensues.Good movie, nothing spectacular but definitely a satisfying way to burn an hour and a half. 30-somethings still seeking direction in life will no doubt relate to these two lovable losers. The movie strikes an odd balace between being crude and vulgar and between coming across as a movie for young kids. Recommended viewing.

The movie arrived very quickly on the first day of the estimated range of delivery. It was packaged well so it did not break, and was in perfect condition. I am very happy with my purchase and would be happy to purchase from here again.
