Product Description

Product Description

In her very successful first book, "Pretty Party Cakes", celebrity cake designer Peggy Porschen brought us a range of fabulously stylish decorated cakes, cupcakes and cookies. Now, in "Romantic Cakes", she has applied her inspirational vision to her own favourite subject area - cookies and cakes for romantic occasions. There are delights to celebrate all the steps on the course of true love, from the earliest stirrings of affection on St. Valentine's Day, through the proposal and engagement, the bridal shower and hen or stag nights up to the big day itself. And for the weddings, Peggy has included all manner of irresistible inventions, from decorated cookie favors, bridesmaids' gifts and decorations for the children's table. Beginning with an easy-to-follow introduction covering all the equipment, basic recipes and techniques needed to make the cakes, the book is designed to suit both beginners and more experienced cooks. Chapters cover Cookies, Small Cakes and Large Cakes and include delights such as Venetian Mask Cookies, Je t'Aime Fondant Fancies and the breathtaking Bed of Roses. User-friendly text and clear step-by-step photography make even the most elaborate creations achievable so that every romantic occasion can be made a little bit sweeter.

About the Author

Peggy Porschen grew up in Germany, a country renowned for its cakes. She moved to London in 1998 graduating top of her class at the prestigious Cordon Bleu school. From there, she went on to work as pastry chef at the Lanesborough Hotel and with master baker Gerhart Jenne at Konditor and Cook on London's South Bank. Quickly developing her own highly individual style, she left there to set up her own business, which was instantly successful. Soon she was making cakes and cookies for major events of all kinds, including chocolate Faberge Eggs for guests at Elton John's 2003 White Tie and Tiara Ball. Most recently she has started supplying Fortnum & Mason with an exquisite range of decorated cookies and speciality confections. Her cakes have been featured in magazines and newspapers as diverse as the Daily Mail, The Sunday Times, The Financial Times, Wedding Flowers, Brides, You and Your Wedding, Wedding Day, OK, Delicious and Marie Claire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, Feb 24 2009

This review is from: Romantic Cakes (Paperback)
Hi Everyone! I purchased this book and fell in love. The cakes in this book are easy to make, taste great and look amazing! You can definitely step up your portfolio of cake designs with this book without having the years of experience people will think you have! The recipes are great (the regulars) but more so the cake designs are amazing. The designs are both beautiful and elegant. There is a mixture of wedding cakes and celebration cakes. Both have very modern selections. Most importantly, the decorating techniques are very well laid out and easy to follow: very easy! I hate when there are no pictures when explaining a decorating technique, this book has a lot of pictures which is great! I will add that all of Peggy Porschen's books are very easy to follow. The majority of all the cakes are made with fondant; which means you have to be comfortable using it and like the taste of it. The book is much cheaper online; don't bother checking in stores.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very elegant !, Feb 17 2011
This review is from: Romantic Cakes (Paperback)
I purchased this book to learn more about fondant techniques, and also to get new ideas for cakes. I wasn't disapointed. Most of the cakes are wedding cakes but the book provides good instructions and techniques that we can easily use. The pictures are awesome, and the style is classic with a very personal touch. Peggy Porschen knows her business. Can't wait to buy her next book ! This is a buy and if you are a beginner, I recommend you to read all techniques before you try anything, so this way you won't miss any step (like icing your cakes before applying fondant- really important!)The only negative thing I could say is that the measurings for the cake recipes are by weight, which is not convenient if you don't own a food scale. But if you already have good cake recipes of your own, not a problem ! Enjoy !

4.0 out of 5 stars Same book, different name..., Feb 20 2009
By Triora - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Romantic Cakes (Hardcover)
Peggy Porschen has many beautiful and creative decorating ideas, and it's easy to want all of them! However, be aware that this book is IDENTICAL to her "Beautiful Cakes" book. I think the "romantic" version was published for the UK, and the "beautiful" version was published for the US. The only differences I saw were in measurements (centimeter vs inch) and the names of some items (rolled fondant instead of sugar paste; decorating bag instead of piping bag). Beautiful ideas all around!
