Product Description

From his childhood on the family farm in rural Tuscany to the worldwide stage, Andrea Bocelli has achieved phenomenal success. His singing is only partially the point, and his fame owes much more to the aura of romance and the romantic archetype that's attached to him. Romanza is by far Bocelli's largest success, winning adoration thanks to the swooning vocals and the easy, sometimes lush, always pop-safe instrumental textures and melodies. As far as his opera chops go, Bocelli has won the approval of Pavarotti but likely will not wow enthusiasts. The upside is that Bocelli will likely grow the opera pie, convincing labels to take on more operatic projects. --Andrew Bartlett

5.0 out of 5 stars a feast of Italian song Oct. 31 2003
Format:Audio CD
Full of unabashed emotion and saturated with gorgeous melodies, this is a CD for romantics, a special musical Valentine from a singer who obviously takes immense joy in singing; one can feel the pleasure recording this album gave Bocelli...it is palpable. Though I initially didn't care for Bocelli's sound, the more I listen, the more I enjoy it.
The orchestra is lush and beautiful, with a fine assortment of excellent musicians, like Celso Valli on piano.
Heavenly tracks are: Lucio Dalla's "Caruso", which is a glorious composition, performed to perfection. The delicacy of "Le Tue Parole", sung with melt-your-heart tenderness is a winner, as is another lovely number with a spoken intro, "Rapsodia".
Though most people are familiar with "Time to Say Goodbye", with Sarah Brightman (the first track, "Con Te Partiro", is the solo version of this song), the other duets are also wonderful: "Vivo per Lei" is one of my favorite tracks, and the petite pop star with the big voice, Giorgia, is fabulous in it; another young Italian singing star, Gerardina Trovato sings in "Vivere", and English rock singer John Miles is marvelous in a live recording of "Miserere", with his deep gravelly voice making a good contrast to Bocelli's.
The booklet insert has all the lyrics in both Italian and English, and total time is 66'03.
If you want to indulge in undiluted Italian heart and soul, this CD is a five course meal of anima e cuore...a delicacy to be relished !

1.0 out of 5 stars Musaq with Italian words Oct. 1 2003
By Ernie P
Format:Audio CD
I purchased this CD because of some of the reviews I had read about "people having heard this at a dinner party" or because "a friend gave it as a birthday present". Reviewers went on to say that it was a must have - but I must tell you the music is very simple (like the melody was done on a play-at-home keyboard). Reminded me of elevator music sung in Italian. Bocelli has such a beautiful voice and it is wasted because of the underlying music.
Now, let me just say, I'm not reviewing this from an Opera perspective. The first selection "Con Te Partiro" with Sarah Brightman is beautiful, but from tehn on it is pretty bad. The only thing I can imagine was that folks were impressed enough with hearing a song in another language to purchase this CD. I don't know if Amazon will post this review (since they want to sell as many CDs as possible) but there are certainly other CDs like "Time to Say Goodbye" by Sarah Brightman which I would select over this one. She has a much greater range and the accompanying music is beautiful. Save your money on this one.
Amazon place this on the first page so there is some balance to the reviews! Otherwise people only see the "good" review and don't get a well rounded review - BE FAIR! You'll have happier (and more repeat) customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romanza, American version and the Import one Dec 11 2002
Format:Audio CD
Review written by Albertina Monteiro - or Pim, from Lisbon.
As usual, beautiful, only a Tenor could change records in voice as you. Time to say Goodbye, performed by you and Sara Brightman, I am sorry to say, that this music is yours. I have the original CD imported from Germany, and Sara Brightman, that I like too, when she sings on her own, them music is not the Same. In America Con te partiro, is Con te volare. And this music will last forever. Vivere, vivo per lei, only a tenor with your skills could do it. It is as beautiful today as it was on the day that released.
I send these records to Mozambique, through a little boy of 9 years old, for him to learn what is music, besides other genders of music. The sucess that this record got all over the world was right. Even today, is a record that you listen with all the pleasure of the World. Thanks Andrea Bocelli, for not forgetting your public, us the simple mortals on earth, that do not possess your musical knowledge and Value.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS HOW ANGELS SING Nov. 6 2002
Format:Audio CD
I admit, I'm not a music critic, but I am a music lover.
"Romanza" remains Bocelli's masterpiece. "Con Te Partiro" is the best known track, but if you stop there, you're missing the point. Every track on this album is amazing.
Bocelli has been blessed with a gift; a voice that touches the heart and soul of his listeners.
Dissect it if you must, but nothing can detract from the heart-felt emotion that "Romanza" delivers. It matters not whether this is deemed pop or classical music. In fact, the dissension is a testimony to the album's wide appeal and it's mystery.
I was introduced to Bocelli when he was a guest on one of Celine Dion's television specials. They sang a duet ( "The Prayer", which was later released on "Sogno"). I couldn't believe that a singer could create a glimpse of heaven. Bocelli can, with his voice and his exceptional, quite angelic delivery.
I have owned this album since it's American release. It never fails to transport me to a place of wonder and peaceful serenity.
No matter what mood I'm in when I push play, I'm guaranteed to have a smile on my face and a brighter outlook on my day by the middle of the first track.
My advice would be to purchase the album, listen with an open heart and prepare to visit a place you've never been, but once experienced, a place you'll want to visit again and again.
