4.0 out of 5 stars Jet's best American film June 6 2004
Since coming to the US, Jet has been given a variety of akward roles. Romeo Must Die was probably his best film outside of China. The cast flowed smoothly together, and the story had a few twists.

1.0 out of 5 stars They faked it. April 23 2004
I like Jet Li but this movie is so faked it was impossible to get into the story. We are suppose to beleive this is the Bay Area of California but we see the Vancouver B.C.'s skyline, and locations and mountains, scene after scene, only the license plates and flags have been changed to protect the innocent. I just could not take any of it seriously. Lets have more truth in location. Pleeeease!

1.0 out of 5 stars The L.I.Y.A.H. & Jet Li? April 17 2004
By A Customer
Just one question that remained on my mind throughout this horrid film. Who decided that Aaliyah should be put with someone as old as Jet Li? And if he isn't that old he looked way older than Aaliyah. He looked as old as Delroy Lindo. But back to the issue at hand...rating this movie.
This film was pathetic. Delroy Lindo, Isiah Washington and of course ( Miss Aaliyah ) were pretty good. They moved the story along. The African-American parts of the story were very interesting. The problem I had with Jet Li's part and the scenes with the Chinese actors bored me because it relied on subtitles. I tolerate subtitles in foreign films but I didn't expect so many in this film. Just because people are Asian, Hollywood acts like they can't speak English? Anyway, the film was supposed to be a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. Well it failed miserably. Aaliyah and Jet Li had no chemistry. It was easy to see what he saw in her but I didn't buy Aaliyah falling for Jet Li. I just didn't feel that at all. Like Dangerous Minds, Romeo Must Die is another case of the movie's soundtrack being ten times better than the film. My advice? Don't watch this and don't dare spend money on this. Aaliyah maybe your thing but even her impressive film debut doesn't push any sparks with this one. This film had a lot of potential IF they had a stronger male lead. I'm sorry Jet Li wasn't cutting it at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Romeo must... i repeat, must... die March 24 2004
I have never really been a Jet Li fan. I think he's to one dimensional and he's always the though guy. Not only that, he uses wires in virtually all of his action sequences. When I started to watch this film, i was going to watching it as if i've never seen a Jet Li film before. But my opinion eneded up the same. It was a bad movie, with bad acting and average action sequences. It was just a macho movie, with no point. If you want a martial arts film with all the stunts done without wires and where it's fun and exciting, get a Jackie Chan flick (although his recent couple of films have had obvious wire stunts in them, he is 50 yoou know). Jackie Chan is the best action star there is, was, and ever will be. If you want quality, get Jackie Chan. Garbage, get Jet Li.

3.0 out of 5 stars Romeo & Juliet March 22 2004
Don't be fooled by this title I mean its is nothing what it seems. It's about Han(Jet Li) escaping from prison to search for his brother Death. While on the hunt he runs into Aaliyah(R.I.P)
that plays trish and father of a Business man dad.Hans dad a mobster, faces off with trish family cus of misunderstanding of Which Russell Wong plays a big part of.This movie is not that bad,it just lacks alot of action just alot of running around but the matrix moves are really cool though.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Mix Jan. 25 2004
This movie is perfect for what it tried and succeeded to achieve: Kung Fu Hip Hop. It doens't pretend to be more than what it is. It's loaded with well cheograped fight scenes curtesy of Cory Yuen, that's both inventive and unique. Imagine, kung fu touch football, a flying firehose, Jet Li puppeteering Aliyah to kick Francois Yip's rear end, and a whole lot of stuff thrown in. Although the plot can be virtually ignored like background music for the martial arts, it is essential in keeping the movie flowing. And the supporting cast is very A list, like Delroy Lindo, Russell Wong and Anthony Anderson who provides the comic relief. Ofcourse everyone will agree that the pairing of Li and Aliyah is impecable. They share such a sweet and innocent chemistry that it shows thru each time they are on screen together. The DVD extras does show evidence that they got along very well off screen and shared mutual admiration. Li even did a cameo on Aliyah music video. The DVD is really worth owning because it is the kind of movie that you can watch again and again when you are in the mood for it. All along you can't help but feel terrible about Aliyah's sudden death. How sad! Buy the DVD and consider it an homage to a pretty girl who could have had a really great acting career.
