4.0 out of 5 stars Witty, amusing, and with some unexpected twists, May 6 2000

Guy Kimbalton wants a wife - but doesn't want anyone who'll make any sort of demands on him; he wants to keep his carefree lifestyle. A friend recommends his sister, and so the deal is done. But Harriet is not quite what Guy was expecting....

Harriet is a delightful heroine who is determined to make the best of her new home and new husband, even though Guy doesn't want to be made the best of! Oliver also makes good use of an entertaining cast of supporting characters, including Guy's brother (who really deserved his own book) and his mistress, who turns out to have an interesting connection to Harriet!

Mentioned in passing are characters from some of Oliver's other books, although this is less obviously part of the Seven Corinthians series than the others in that series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Regency, Dec 27 1999

The Earl of Kimalton wishes to avoid having his mother pick out a wife for him. His best friend remembers his sister, a special license is purchased, the wedding takes place. A marriage of convenience?

The book mainly deals with the way the Earl of Kimbalton who wanted a woman of good sense, who knows her place and Lady Harriet, who has decided and quite strong views come to terms with their marriage. Interesting characters, a quite marvelous and unexpected scene in Hatchard's Bookshop. Needless to say the Earl's life is quite turn upside down by his new wife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Patricia Oliver does it again, Nov 9 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Roses For Harriet (Paperback)
Another intriguing plot and some very likeable characters, including the hero's illegitimate half-brother. There are some familiar characters in this book, 'guests' from other Oliver books, though it is not as obviously part of the Seven Corinthians series as some of her others.

The part of the book dealing with Harriet and Giles' mistress is hilarious, and also very touching.
