Good for listening compehension, but not much else. March 21 2009

I think Rosetta Stone may be the best program around to teach beginning listening comprehension, but that's it. It's weak on other skills. For speaking, you really need to interact with a live person in meaningful communication. Reading? You might try something called a "book" (A device made of paper that works using ambient light.) I'd absolutely recommend buying Rosetta Stone despite its limited usefulness... if the price weren't absolutely ridiculous. But, I think that's part of the appeal: "Wow, This thing costs a fortune! It must be incredible!" Uh, nooooo...

product good; equipment not Feb. 15 2009
By Levi - Published on
The audio headset (Audio Companion) that was included was defective (wires were damaged) and I was unable to use it, which is a critical part of this program. I was unhappy that I paid extra for the Audio Companion and ended up having to buy another one, since the one included did not work. The Rosetta Stone program is great. I was disappointed in the seller sending me a defective product.

Not bad, but requires more time than advertized Feb. 25 2009
By CT, USA - Published on
The impression you get watching commercials is not quite accurate. The system works you are learning the language, but it requires a considerable amount of time and effort to solidify the learning. I speak three languages fluently. Some of the learning techniques I've used in the past are present in this product and are effective. I give this product three stars not because it does not work, but rather because it does not work as advertised. Roseta's claim that it has no boring drills is false. This product is one big drill, repeating it over and over again.

It works great for me March 6 2009

Some people love it and some hate it. I really didn't buy this item based on how up to date the material in it looks, I purchased it to learn a new language and I am doing just that, I love the ease of it and I am already able to banter in the spanish tongue.
