Product Description

Opening with a Dido theme song and featuring character-driven, sweet-natured melodrama, Roswell was a show with a surprisingly dedicated fandom, who twice won it reprieve from cancellation. One of its main strengths was, of course, the extent to which its premise--alien teenagers trying to sort out their identities while emotionally involved with their human contemporaries--was a free-floating metaphor for race and sexuality issues. Another was the strong ensemble that its cast developed: you believed in the strangeness of the alien trio and the well-intentioned normality of their three human friends. Jason Behr gave the alien Max a quiet authority and Majendra Delfino took the sidekick role of Maria and gave it both intensity and fine comic timing. It was also a show in which you were never sure which adults you could trust--William Sadleir trod a fine line of ambiguity as the local sheriff and Julie Benz was silkily sinister as an FBI agent. Anyone who ever loved this show will want these DVDs--and many others may want to find out what the fuss was about.

Roswell is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. The special features include commentaries on six episodes by writer Jason Kanims, the directors, and various cast members as well as a featurette on the making of the show and another on its adaptation from the original Roswell High series of young adult novels. The commentaries are unusually insightful on the casting process, and the discs also include the auditions for the part of Tess as well as a deleted scene and a music video. --Roz Kaveney

5.0 out of 5 stars You've Got to See It July 8 2004
By A Customer
Thanks for finally coming out on DVD. If you missed this great series on television, you now have a chance to see it on DVD. It offers something for everyone. Sharp writing, quick wit, tension and suspense, and great acting by cast members who really make their characters come to life. Now, if they will just get around to releasing the next two seasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most original show on local tv! June 28 2004
True, following mysterious events in Roswell is no new subject. However, aliens that are basically human in everything but their blood type that allows them the abilities even most superheroes would envy. The only three downfalls of the series all together, were #1: They did not learn 95% of their powers until the second season and #2: local tv shows don't usually rake in enough dough for special effects, so they can't really use the powers at full force until season 3 which leads to #3: season 3 was given to the crudiest producers ever, UPN20 (instead of its original WB39). UPN destroyed and mutilated every chance this show had of making a fourth season.
yes, the music has changed a bit, but if you actually bought the set and did not download it illegally or copy a friend's, you can read the memo that states "if the music was not changed, it never would have been released." I admit, the music changes drastically effect some episodes, and 99% of the new music sounds like the exact same band from a garage with the doors shut and no real sound equipment. But I would rather have the set and not worry about it.
As far as the first season being the worst, it's not true, the third was the worst (it was the x-files on crack). The only real bad thing about the first is the fact that it took 26 episodes for them to form a cool group of central characters. the whole "trying to keep it secret" thing was suspensful, but also extreemly anoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roswell is Missed!!!!! Nov. 11 2003
An extraordinary show that touched the hearts of many, "Roswell" was cut short after only three seasons. Jason Behr, Shiri Appleby, Katherine Heigl and the rest of the cast brought to life such wonderful, lovable characters. Every week, the show explored a double-edged sword of fantasy/reality as the series tugged at the hearts of it's loyal fans. Whether it was sending bottles of Tabasco sauce or any other method of showing support to the show, "Roswell" fans are truly devoted and it's a sad loss to see the show end after 3 short years. From the moment Max saved the life of Liz, to the day they were married, these two star-crossed lovers made it impossible for people not to love "Roswell." Don't miss out - get your copy of season one and live the magic that touched so many hearts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roswell's got it ALL! BUY THIS! Nov. 4 2003
At long last, one of the most original and gripping TV shows comes out on DVD! The suspense, drama, romance and human interest of season one will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for seasons two and three to make their DVD debut. Aliens Max, Isabel and Michael, imbued with human DNA and assimilated into Roswell's human society, desperately try to keep their real origin secret from the local sheriff, the government and the FBI---out of fear and necessity. Though alien, they're the "good guys" trying to merely survive in a world of cynical and threatening humans. Their narrow escapes and their desire to remain apart from and still interrelate with humans makes for very interesting viewing. "The White Room", a late first-season episode, ranks with some of the most suspenseful and action-filled plots in the history of television. This is one DVD set you won't see on the "used" block. Buy it---you will definitely want to keep it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Much Mush-room July 5 2009
By Dave and Joe TOP 100 REVIEWER
The beginning of a great series. The first set is a bit mushy for my tastes but it establishes the characters well. The romance between Max and Liz is mostly charming but becomes silly in some episodes, over emphasized in others. The supporting characters get to grow and develop throughout the series changing dynamic and tension - just like they are supposed to. The premise of four teen aliens in Roswell High is wonderfully camp and is carried off with both humour and seriousness. It's definately worth a look.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great quality but not what was promised us April 24 2004
By A Customer
When the announcement was made that a DVD set of Roswell would be coming out with ALL THE DELETED SCENES, I pre-ordered the set. The promise of those deleted scenes is the only reason I bought the it. I was seriously disappointed when I got it and found that only 1 scene was included.
Yes, there are music changes and I can live with those not being a big music buff. But what would it have cost to include the scenes and gag reel we were promised????
If season 2 comes out, I won't pre-order it. I'll wait to find out if we were shafted again. I buy DVDs for the extras. If I only wanted to re-watch the shows... I could watch my VCR tapes.
