During a Pickles family barbecue, the backyard becomes the setting of "Reptar Tours in Discover America," the first of four episodes on this video. Imaginations run wild as Chuckie, Tommy, Phil, and Lil set off to find a "zoominer" (a neat present that comes from a faraway place, not from a store) for Dil. Tour guide Lil is quick to point out interesting places like "Graham Canyon" and "Pile of Rockies." The gang's take on each of these locations is quite amusing. A simple trip to the local garden center takes a turn for the wild side in "The Jungle." Grandpa wants to plant soybeans, saying, "you can make anything out of soybeans; you can make corn out of soybeans." But Mom Pickles wants to plant flowers. With the grownups preoccupied, the gang takes off on a wild jungle adventure. Suspecting that Dil has fallen victim to "Jungle Beaver" (jungle fever), they must get him to safety. But first they must outwit a pesky lion (actually a poodle) and the "Latin hyenas." When Chuckie's beloved Reptar Jr. gets put in the basement by mistake, the gang must rescue him in "Journey to the Center of the Basement." They encounter all sorts of obstacles: a pile of old newspapers becomes a pyramid of an ancient civilization; a mouse takes on huge proportions. The twins announce that this is the scariest "denture" they've ever been on. A trip to the Renaissance Faire is the setting for "Faire Play." They escape from "Ye Olde Daycare" on a quest to find the Good Knight. When Stu's homemade dragon runs amok, there's only one thing that can save him... Reptar. When Phil kisses a frog, Reptar appears to save the day. It's fun to see how Rugrat logic works. The clever writing make for a lot of laughs for children as well as adults. Since it's broken into four separate cartoons, you can watch this one-hour video in sections or straight through. This is one you'll watch again and again. --Peggy Maltby-Etra

Rugrats Discover America shows four rugrats cartoons. The first show is Discover America when Tommy's grandpa travels the country and brings back gifts to each rugrat but cannot find baby Dill's gift. The rugrats hop in the reptar wagon for a pretend tour of America through the backyard while the parents have a pinic. The rugrats hope to find the perfect gift as they search the country and discover new sites along the way. 2nd show The Jungle. The rugrats get lost in a Florist full of plants and vegtables which makes a perfect jungle backround. A little poodle chases the babies as they try and save Dill from Jungle fever. Will Dill get his medicine in time or will the babies be lost in the jungle forever? 3rd show Journey to the center of the basement. Chuckie's new toy reptar Jr. gets mistakenly put in Chuckie's basement. The rugrats become explorers in hopes to rescue Reptar Jr. before the rat people get him. Tommy plans to help Chuckie be brave and to save Reptar Jr. 4th show Faire Play. Phil kisses a frog and wishes to go to Fairyland. The babies are whisked away to a kingdom full of fun. Stu has also bulit a robo dragon that eats him by mistake. The rugrats wish for the one person to save Tommy's daddy.... Reptar to the Rescue. Also as a bonus to the video the making of rugrats in paris the movie. You'll see Robotic Reptar, the famous sites of Paris, and new Chuckie's mommy and lots of other things. Oh La La the babies are going to paris. I suggest you buy this tape. If your kids like Rugrats they will like this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rugrats Discover America June 12 2000

Format:VHS Tape
The movie was cute, and my 4 year old grandson liked it. The only reason I gave it a low rating was because much of it included material similar to "The Rugrats Vacation." Also, one of the cartoons seemed to be more about the grown-ups than the kids, so it became less interesting to my grandson than the other shows which focus on the babies. As usual, he watched it 5 times in a row, so he probably would rate it a 4 star video. I feel that the earlier cartoons which are more simple and less slick are more entertaining and funnier.

I wanted this one... I had the Rugrats Vacation and this one is very similar so there's no sense in really both, unless if you want to. This one is pretty good :)
