Product Description

From Booklist

Don't confuse this book with The Complete Book of Running for Women (1999) by former Runner's World managing editor Claire Kowalchik. Now Runner's World has produced its own very comparable guide, written by Scott, running expert and editor in chief of Women Outside magazine. Kowalchik's book has more helpful charts, such as a body-mass index, and a more thorough nutrition section; but both share very similar content, covering the basic nuts and bolts, such as training, racing, proper nutrition, pregnancy, weight loss, and safety. The layout of this title is easier to read, and the use of photos to demonstrate stretching techniques and exercise drills sets it apart. Topical sidebars include "Smart Tips": for instance, after a marathon, drink fluids, get into warm clothes, ease sore muscles with cold water, and don't run for a few weeks. Loyal Runner's World readers will turn to this source for practical, expert advice for women runners at all levels. Brenda Barrera

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great motivator!, Dec 9 2002
While training for my third marathon, I picked up this book to find some new training ideas. I couldn't put it down! It covers all facets of women's running - beginning to long distance, pregnancy, nutrition, balancing family and/or job with running and motivating factors. I used the charts, stretches and training ideas. I've recommended it to countless friends and often discussed ideas from the book while on long runs with training partners. Not only did I get some practical training advice, but I got a new resource for my running.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book for new runners, and int. runners, May 27 2010
Great book, especially if you are a beginner. I'm not sure how helpful this book is if you've already been running for a long time. I've been running now for about 3-4 months. This book was helpful at explaining running and training terms, gives some workout schedules and provides advice on how a woman can help keep her life balanced while still maintaining a running schedule. I wish these books would go into nutrition more. It would be nice if the author had a chapter about what she eats generallyl and before racing, etc. The nutrition part is very vague and not helpful. The rest is good though.
