Review

"A vivid and personal account of missionary witness in a land which has known not only the triumphs of faith but also the terrible events of the genocide in 1994 which led to the deaths of some 800,000 people. I congratulate Meg on her honesty in facing up to the questions that arise from that terrible event. Only the cross can heal those wounds." - Most Rev. Dr George Carey, Archbishop of Canterbury "One of the most riveting gospel accounts of our time - utterly compulsive." - Rev. Richard Bewes, Rector of All Souls Church, Langham Place, London "Will challenge, inspire, disturb and move you. You won't be the same again!" - Lesley Bilinda, author of The Colour of Darkness

Book Description

Rwanda is a land that has known both the momentus movement of the Spirit of God and the heart-wrenching horror of genocide. Meg Guillebaud is a third generation missionary to Rwanda. Ostensibly the account of her missionary family, this is really of story of Rwanda and neighboring Burundi, wrestling with centuries-old tribal hatreds. The East African revival in which Meg's parents were heavily involved, brought deep repentance and reconciliation. But did it disguise deeper divisions?

This book chronicles the tragic events in a war stricken country and confronts the difficult spiritual questions arising from the murder of 800,000 people. How could God let this happen in a land so touched by revival?

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging ... provoking ..., Oct 5 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rwanda: The Land God Forgot?: Revival, Genocide, and Hope (Paperback)
This book gave me a really hard time! The challenge of hearing about the reactions of Christians to the horrors they and their family experienced was enormous - the ability to say that 'God is good'despite the horror of their situation is incredible. Not to mention justified.

But the majority of the book is the biography of the Guillebaud family as missionaries in Rwanda. It was well written and presented.

The discussion at the end of the book on the theology of the situation faced up to the real questions - I found that very helpful.
