Product Description

Extreme weather threatens Europe. When France calls on Mortimer to help solve this enigma, he goes to visit Professor Labrousse, chief French meteorologist. After the driver Labrousse sends to pick up Mortimer disappears, our friend is the prime suspect. Mortimer contacts Captain Blake to help him with this tricky situation. Then Blake disappears. Mortimer and Labrousse have two missing-person cases to investigate. They soon discover that the disappearances are linked to the climatic catastrophes.

About the Author

Born of Edgar Pierre Jacobs' imagination during the post-WWII period, Professor Philip Mortimer, nuclear physicist, and Captain Francis Blake, dashing head of MI5, are legendary heroes of the 9th art. The author, a close relative of Herge, appreciated the exceptional and the astonishing that could be found within the scope of scientific invention; his heroes, very much ahead of their time, discover extraordinary objects and phenomena through their uncommon adventures. Before devoting himself exclusively to them, Jacobs collaborated with Herge and took part in the realization of Tintin in the Congo, Tintin in America, The Blue Lotus, King Ottokar's Sceptre, The Seven Crystal Balls, and Prisoners of the Sun.

Finally, the english translations of this great eurocomic series!! Jan 25 2010
By Michael R. Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Finally, after many years after Comcat put out a couple of Blake & Mortimer albums, someone is putting this series out in English. I've long heard about this series, but had never read it. It's great that they have, and I plan on getting all of them.

If there is one issue I have, its that I wish they had reprinted them in their original order. This is NOT the sixth B&M story, but actually the eightth!! Cinebooks is including a list of all the B&M books in order, showing which ones they have reprinted, and the next ones. At least this is one done by EP Jacobs, B&M's creator, as will the next one. I do hope they reprint the first story (a three-parter) and the last 2 done by Jacobs, as well as the 2 reprinted by Comcat. While I enjoy seeing the later non-Jacob albums, I wish they'd focus on him AND step up their reprint schedule with this series. 2 per year is just too few.

This story is another class B&M 'science mystery'. Mortimer is in Paris (that's actually the subtitle "Mortimer in Paris"), helping with the wild weather plaguing France and all of Europe. As its a B&M story, you know we'll be dealing with intrigue, weird science, and of course, Col. Olrik will be behind it somehow.

I look forward to the next album, "The Necklace Affair", which is another EP Jacobs tale.

Not among the very best but still very worthwhile to read Aug 30 2010
By Andres C. Salama - Published on Amazon.com

Originally written in 1959, in the height of the Cold War, SOS Meteors had Blake and Mortimer go to France to fight an evil organization that create huge mischief by altering Europe's weather patterns. One of the ranking members of this unnamed organization is Olrik; the leader is a mysterious general who seems modeled after the then Soviet leader Mikoyan and whose motives are never made totally clear but presumably has to do with letting the confusion help a Soviet invasion of Western Europe. This album is not among the very best of B&M, but is very worthwhile if you are a fan. Among the plus, great drawings (in the clear line style), a very fine 1950 atmosphere and an interesting plot, especially in the first half. Among the minus, there is too much written exposition in some of the strips making the narrative a bit awkward at parts (especially with all the pseudo scientific explanations). The ending also comes as a bit of a disappointment, as the narrative loses some steam at the end.
