3.0 out of 5 stars Janet Fraiser lives!, Aug 12 2009
By
Ilzamar (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SG-1: Savarna (Audio CD)
As someone dissapointed by the decision to kill off Janet Fraiser in the TV series, I welcomed this addition to SG-1 lore. Savarna set up an interesting problem that begged for more exploration than this particular story allowed. Personally, I would have favoured examining the lessons of being judgemental and jumping to conclusions when building relationships with alien/foreign cultures. Fraiser's character was honoured accurately but I can't say that about O'Neill or Daniel - my opinion. Yet, I found one moment when Fraiser challenges O'Neill to be more interesting than anything she was ever allowed to do on the series. There were breaches of military protocol that ruined the story's credibility a bit and would never have been permitted on the show - such as not guarding a clearly hostile prisoner. And enabling Janet to somehow interpret the uses of alien medicines was a bit of a stretch. Nevertheless, the story was interesting enough. At the same time, I like the idea of exploring SG-1's world through the eyes of some of its secondary or tertiary characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long Overdue Return of Janet Fraiser, April 7 2009
By Geonn W. Cannon "geonn" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: SG-1: Savarna (Audio CD)
I was really looking forward to these Big Finish Audio stories, and none of them were disappointing. It was great to hear new adventures with the characters we loved, and to have them actually performed by the actors! But none of them were more anticipated (by me, anyway) than this one. Teryl Rothery is one of my favorite actresses today, and Janet Fraiser was probably my favorite character on SG-1 (Samantha Carter beat her, but only by a bit). So I was thrilled to see she would live on in these stories.

Teryl is an expert storyteller, and this story was brilliantly performed. The emotion, the humor, everything was spot on. And she expertly brought the character of Janet Fraiser back to life for us. I'm grateful to the people who put this together, and who realized what a fan favorite Teryl/Janet is with the fans of the show. Can't wait for the next one!

For the technical details: The CD runs for about an hour, and there's a 5 minute interview (which is a lot of fun, as anyone who knows Teryl would assume) with Teryl at the end of it. If you're a fan of SG-1, or especially a fan of Teryl, this is well worth your time and money.

this is a great story and it was great to have a story with Janet Fraiser.
The story is interesting and having Teryl doing the audio was the best. All the Stargate Audiobooks are good so far.

It's always nice when a stargate alumni returns for a cameo or something. But to have an entire story center around said alumni is something completely different. Janet Fraiser was never a primary character, but then not a secondary one, either. She was one of those people that wasn't in the opening credits, but that you knew would be at the SGC no matter what. That said, she never really had a story that centered around her, so this was audiobook was an incredible opportunity for the fans. The writing, both monologue and dialogue, is superb, the acting is brilliant, and fans get a look at the inner workings of one of our favorite doctors.
