I recently purchased this set from SOG. I have been a fan of SOG products for some time and this set did not disappoint. The three pc set is great value for the money and SOG quality is pretty good. If I have one gripe however it would be the handle on the Fast Hawk, I find it a bit slippery and fear that it could easily slip out of your grasp. I will try ruffing the finish up with some sand paper or possibly use some hockey tape on it.
i purchased this combo set because it was a great price and i figured spend a little extra for the machete and get a bonus saw. the fasthawk easily dents but these can be filled out - you are not always going to hit what you throw at, sometimes rocks miraculously come out of nowhere. the machete is great for ferns and small soft wood. i warped the blade cutting into iron wood. the length of the machete takes away the effectiveness of its saw, it is more flimsy than i would like. the saw is still in its package as the machete doubles as a saw.
i recommend the fasthawk as it is fantastic to play with. but spend the little extra and get the double headed battle ax - also a purchase i made, double the fun. if you want a machete go with the gerber junior - its just better quality and the shorter the blade the stronger and easier to control. all folding saws are pretty much the same - they will break overtime so im not expecting too much form it when i do get around to using it.
i have an extensive background in the outdoors and wilderness camping having spent much time canoeing multi-day canoe trips into remote areas of ontario accessible by air or water. this combo set was purchased as toys and i would never bring these items camping. they just are not built for cutting firewood/kindling or blazing trails.
