An Ambitious Name for an Ambitious Knife

Aegis means "shield" or "protection" in Greek, and it is also the code name for both the world's premier integrated air defense system and the sea-based element of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System. Thanks to SOG's thoughtful design, this versatile knife lives up to its illustrious name. The knife opens to a full length of 7 inches, and its 3-inch half-serrated blade is crafted from AUS-8 stainless steel for improved strength and edge retention. The black TiNi finish on this blade is both lustrous and unforgettable.

Find the Difference in the Details

Cryogenic Heat Treatment Guarantees a Sharp, Durable Blade

SOG's unique cryogenic heat treatment increases the toughness and wear resistance of the knife's blade. The process takes the knife slowly down in temperature to less than 300 degrees Fahrenheit and then back to room temperature again. This process relieves stress in the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength and edge retention; Knife edges stay sharp longer, with significantly less micro-fracturing and edge-chipping.

Spring into Action!

Spring to life with SOG Assisted Technology

When you start to open the AE-24 blade, SOG's patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs; As one opens the blade, the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade opens on its own. The end result is the blade propelling open once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action. With fast, easy access, use the AE-24 blade whenever you need it.

Ergonomic Handle Design

The Aegis knife is designed to sit comfortably in either hand, and is well-balanced for a natural feel that inspires confident cuts. SOG's trademarked, checkered DigiGrip handle provides a sure grip for safe, accurate positioning. The tacky rubber inserts on the handle offer extra anti-slip security. Plus, this handle is crafted from tough, glass-reinforced nylon, a compound that is lightweight, abrasion resistant and impact resistant.

Safety Locking Mechanism

Along the handle of the knife you'll find a safety locking mechanism to hold the blade securely closed when not in use. This features ensures the knife is safe and secure in your pocket.

2.0 out of 5 stars SOG is great - however this knife has issues July 10 2013

I love my SOG tomcat 3.0. however its a large knife not so practical for EDC. So i ordered this little unit and received it yesterday. the reviews are generally great on it, however a few mentioned how they received blades that were really stiff to open.

Unfortunately i received one of the hard to open ones. so hard to open that my thumb is bleeding under the nail because i had to use so much pressure to get it to open. there is a lot of resistance to opening, then a click, then it grinds and i have to open it manually the rest of the way. I tried oiling it and if anything it got worse. I contacted Amazon/SOG and they are mailing me a new one which should be here friday. hopefully the next one will be better or i will be returning for a refund. i will update my review.

Item arrived quickly, good quality, extremely light which makes it perfect for an EDC. Thum stud is small and has a sharp edege, the larger versions seem to work a little better. Good for light use( not heavy duty) Opening assist needs some getting used to once again compared to their larger models.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOG AE-24 Jan. 19 2012

Light, Light, Light. I was looking for a very light, but sturdy knife and this fit the bill. Great handle feeling. Super sturdy lock up. Lighting opening, but you need to excercise caution when closing-it is really sharp and not much room for error. I like the black blade and it seems to be holding up quite well. No marks on it yet, time will tell on this part. It also has a nice closed feel and look. Wider on the hinge side and it feels as if it narrows towards the pocket clip so it fits in my pocket well. I really like the tanto blade style with the serrations as the serrations seem to allow for a little dulling without affecting the cutting ability. The knife comes really sharp and for what I use it for (paper and heavy plastic bags) it truly feels like cutting butter. I'm quite satisfied with this product. Ron

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything that I wanted in an EDC knife June 7 2012

The Mini Aegis is a great folder with a lot of thought going towards design and looks. I wanted a knife that I could use as a part of my EDC. The Mini Aegis is a extremely lightweight, assisted-opening, and just plain intimidating knife. The pocket clip situated on the end of the knife makes it hard to notice when carried in your pocket, yet immediately accessible. One of the things that I look for in an assisted-opening knife is a safety because I've had knives spring open on me before. However, SOG has placed their safety in an area where it's the first place you grab when retrieving the knife. Overall, SOG has done a fine job with the Mini Aegis. I might even consider buying the full-sized one to replace my last generation Cold Steel Recon One.

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money for another SOG product Dec 20 2013

As the owner of several SOG knives, I thought I would be impressed with this knife but was disappointed upon receiving it. Unlike the other SOG knives I own, this opening mechanism was NOT smooth, caught on numerous occasions and just felt cheap. If you are looking for a SOG you'll be happy with, consider the XRay or either of the FLASH models which work meticulously. For the extra $15-20, you'll be much happier. Aside from this product, SOG knives are some of the most reliable, consistent products I've ever owned (and I've owned Hogue, Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, CRKT, etc) that cost 3-4x as much. SOG knives are truly a great value for what they provide. So...skip this knife and look into many of the other great products SOG or the above brands offer.
