Product Description Product Description

The SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TFSAT98-CP Flash II Tanto is designed for quick access while letting you have piece of mind knowing an additional safety lock is incorporated giving you extra security. Made of AUS-8 steel with an attractive hardcase black TiNi finish, the 3.5-inch partially serrated, folding blade has a tanto shape with a very strong tip that's ideal for piercing, sharpens easily and makes quick work of any task. When you start to open the blade, SOG’s patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over and high-tension coil springs propel the blade the rest of the way open for fast, easy, one-handed access. A Piston lock utilizes a movable bar wedged between the blade tang and knife handle to securely lock the blade in place when in the open position. The ergonomically contoured and well balanced handle has a black finish and is made of a high strength, abrasion and impact resistant glass-reinforced nylon that will fit comfortably in your hand. A reversible pocket clip extends from the back of the handle, allowing the Flash to sit low in your pocket for the most discreet carry possible. This feature can also be used as a money clip. The TFSAT98-CP has a closed length of 4.5-inches, overall length of 8-inches, blade thickness of 0.13-inches and weighs 3.1-ounces. The SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TFSAT98-CP Flash II Tanto Knife with Partially Serrated Folding 3.5-Inch Steel Blade comes with a limited lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials. Each SOG product is created with the help of company founder and chief engineer, Spencer Frazer. Known for their uncompromising style and performance, these knives and tools showcase innovation, dependability and a unique, futuristic style that has garnered awards and recognition worldwide. SOG products have also won favor among law enforcement, military and industrial customers that rely on their tools to perform flawlessly in the toughest, most adverse conditions.

From the Manufacturer

The Flash II 3-1/2-Inch Knife has got to be one of the coolest knives we've ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button. The Flash II Tanto (Partially Serrated Black TiNi) comes standard with glass-reinforced nylon (GRN) handle and partially serrated edge, Black TiNi finished tanto blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG's patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed. About SOG: Strong, Innovative, Specialty Tools SOG originally stood for Studies and Observation Group, an elite joint services military group designed to handle covert operations during the Vietnam War. SOG Specialty Knives was founded in the spirit of this elite group and became the first knife manufacturer to offer an expanded line that included fixed blades, folding knives, and multipurpose tools.

Received one knife, it was defective, did not open with one hand. When pushing on the nob, it would slowly open maybe 50% of the way. You would need the other hand to fully open the blade and lock it.

Amazon sent another knife, and shipper lost it.

Amazon sent a 3rd knife, this time came in different fancy packaging from SOG. This one was also faulty, did not open with single hand. It seems to be a problem with a piston in each one. Returned both of them.

For this caliber of product, the price is acceptable. The blade has held up well with extensive use, my only complaint is that sand and dirt (Especially the sand) can easily gum up the mechanism used to open the knife. I managed to clean it out without taking it apart which was good. I would rate the sharpness out of the box as below average, but it sharpens up easily and nicely with a sharpening stone. In the future I will not buy the half serrated version of this blade as it sometimes makes it more difficult to use. Also, two small (Very small) spots of rust have appeared near the serrations despite the fact that I always dry it, that was somewhat disappointing.

Overall an amazing product and my first good blade, I still recommend it and I may have been a little harsh. It opens very quickly and very smoothly, you should not be disappointed! (Seriously though, don't get half serrated, a full smooth blade would have been nicer to use AND sharpen)

Solid, sharp, excellent product, Would recommend to anyone looking for a folding pocket knife. Opens and closes very nicely. The assisted opening is excellent and the safety is nice too.

This is one of my favorite knives. It is typical SOG high quality and is light and easy to use. Remembering that closing is a two handed function is not difficult and it actually provides for a level of safety that is not to be overlooked. The tanto blade is a unique design and is a pleasure to use.

Awesome knife. May 8 2012

This knife is incredibly nice, I love it. I really like that it looks awesome, but doesn't say something silly like BLACK OPS across the side or something. The assisted opening is very natural, springing open when you apply pressure to the thumb peg so it's the same sort of motion as you would open a normal knife. Makes if feel more controlled in my opinion, compared to the assisted opening knives with a button or something that makes them spring open. The pocket clip is also absurdly strong. Like, I could clip this to the outside of a backpack and not worry about it. Which eliminates the need to constantly feel my pocket to reassure myself that it hasn't been pushed out of it or something. I've had mine for about six months now and it's still perfect, have it on me almost daily.

Excellent Knife Aug. 3 2011

Has remained very sharp despite daily use as well as using it as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT. Locking mechanism is much nicer than the Gerber Applegate/Fairbaine it's replacing. Safe system is also very nice as it prevents it from opening when removed from the pocket.

Pocket clip allows it to be seated in the pocket and out of sight.

Knocking a star off due to some surface rust on the spine of the blade. Have always kept knife dry so not sure where this came from.

First impression not great, until you play with it! April 8 2013

To be honest, I thought this knife was not quite worth the money I paid for it. The handle felt somewhat cheap, and the "action" of the spring release was a little first. As with any purchase, I played with my new "toy" non stop, and the action has actually become very forgiving, and I can't stop opening and closing the knife now. The handle feels comfortable and is made well. I thought there was some wobble in the blade, but I realized I was trying too hard to find something wrong with the knife by trying to "wiggle" the blade from the handle....guess is as solid as could be.

It's quite comfortable in my pocket, and the safety is a nice feature, although the location is not convenient for quick one handed operation. Overall, this knife is a perfect every day carry and i would certainly recommend it.

It's all you want: Quality steel, good looks, fast, reliable, easy spring opening, safety switch, non slip grip. As they all are, a good knife for many purposes that you will be able to use for a long, long time. I enjoy using it immensely. It never dissapoints.
