An absolutely outstanding blade, as w/ all SOGs. What I would best characterize for this loooooong blade? A short machete. Not for in-camp use; primarily a trail-whacker when one's team is, say, on the move. Though I noticed on the blade, contrasted against when I got my SOG Pentagon(made in Seki Japan about 20 yrs ago), that they have out-sourced their labour to Taiwan; God willing, it won't be a problem. So far, for quality, not a problem, not to infer to my Taiwanese hikers-readers here that they're inferior; it's just a matter of how Japanese think.
But too, most significantly, for those who like to hike w/ their blade, afixed to their gear, upside down for accessibility(quick removal), the "retaining" strap on the sheath is MASSIVELY non-functional(and therefore purely ornamental)-the blade, if carried in the inverted position, will fall out even w/ the strap fastened! A concern for purists(like me), or for people who pay, potentially, $175+ for the most important piece of equipment in their gear, which they don't want to lose.
But, for me, it still stands @ 5 stars-pure SOG.

This is quite possibly the pinnacle of beauty and large knife evolution. The blade length is a plus or a minus, depending on your perspective and expected use. IMHO, this knife may be the supreme large fighting knife, if used correctly (yes, Bowies are up there, too). See:Bowie And Big-knife Fighting System For general usage, it is too large unless you are very aware and respect that blade. My problem is deciding whether to wear it or display it. It is a beauty.

Though a newer style, the same type of knife used by Locke in Lost ;-).
Comes with very sharp factory edge. Hand gaurd is easy to attach if needed. Weight feels well balanced.
Sheath is okay, but could be a bit nicer (seems flexed slightly), but it works, though could definitley use a leg tie, and has hole for your own.
