Good product, especially the items creation guide. Some informations were missing or misguided in the maps at some locations.

Getting a strategy guide for a game is important for all game completionists. This guide includes all the private actions, character skills, item creation information, side quests, and enemy data. It does provide full maps of areas, harvest/mining points, and treasure locations. However, hidden harvest/mining points are not displayed. There are also small bits of errors about the contents found in the treasure chest in the post-ending dungeon, but these minor errors does not really affect the gameplay.
Gamers can fully explore every planet, fully access to every private actions, and fully create items with the help from this guide. The walkthrough has clear directions on what to do next, and tells you where and when to interact with characters with private actions.
Using this guide is the best way to earn all achievements and endings. Hardcore gamers will not miss a thing with this great guide.

Purchasing a video game guide is risky business. Most of them lack something important which require users to check other guides online. The reason we buy game guides is so that we may access visually the complete details of the game; the completionist in all of us hungers for a perfect playthrough, and this guide provides just that for fans of Star Ocean 4.

A common problem for many published game guides is that the company that produced the game failed to communicate effectively with the authors of the guide. The result is a guide that often looks complete - but lacks key information for the completionist in all of us. In this project, Square Enix was directly responsible for providing all the information published, and thus, everything in this guide is complete and accurate.

This guide contains full maps of every area, treasure locations, complete monster and weapons data. Synthesis data, components, skills, bosses, optional content is all here. This is a complete and coherent guide. Buyers need not worry - you won't miss a thing with this book; using this guide is the best way to get all the achievements in the game.

The guide book has maps for each region. Unfortunately, early on in the game, a skill is acquired that allows the user to view all the treasure chest, harvest point, and mining locations on the map anyway. So the maps aren't actually THAT useful. Even more unfortunate is how later on in the game, when you get to areas with hidden harvest/mining points, the map doesn't display them anyway.

However the guidebook is very clear with directions on what to do next and is infinitely helpful for item customization. It's also good for telling you how to trigger the various endings and how to get all the PAs you want. Unfortunately it makes a critical error with the response to a certain one of the PA's. Meaning, if you pick the option that the guidebook tells you to, you actually WON'T get Reimi's final private action. For non perfectionists it's not a big deal since really it's only one private action. But...just keep in mind that this guide book isn't perfect. Keep your eyes open for mistakes.

The character information and skill tables are pretty helpful as well. Some of the strategies offered for the boss battles are quite useful as well. This guidebook is one of the better ones (: just beware mistakes every here and now...

Your best Hope to 100% completion March 24 2009
By Dave - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I'm a perfectionist when it comes to playing RPG's, I want to find every nook and cranny, every upgrade, and every secret I can without missing one bit.
So as I entered Star Ocean the Last Hope, I decided to purchase and use this guide, and believe me, it was not a mistake.

Over the years I've used guides, some were well laid out and easy to use, while others were confusing dictionaries that require you to use the index every few seconds.
This guide is fantastic, everything is laid out in the order of which you encounter events within the game. From Private Actions, to Item Creation, you always know what's coming up, what you can do with what item, and you won't waste any of your time running around in circles when you want to know what to do next.

I recommend this product for those that would like to perfect this game, though it does spoil a couple of parts of the story line if you read ahead of the point you are at. A suggestion would be to only read as far as you have progressed, that way you won't spoil the story line for yourself.

All in all, a fantastic guide of the highest quality.

Great guide - worth every cent July 19 2009

This really was a good guide for the Star Ocean: Last Hope game. The walkthrough doesn't let you miss anything, and I love that private actions are in the walkthrough and not in the back of the book, like other guides for Star Ocean. The walkthrough gets four stars from me - one star is lost for the incorrect information it gives that directly impacts Reimi's ending.

The items lists were long and unweildly. They were not in alphabetical order and this made them horribly difficult to work with. However, at least it had items lists - some guides don't.

The lack of a synthesis chart was a big negative. Synthesis is such a big part of the later game, and there is very little direction or guidance for this. However, the guide gives some synthesis recommendations which are pretty good, so that helped a bit.

I usually judge a guide by the amount of time I spend on the internet looking for information that the guide doesn't contain. I did not have to do that a lot for this game - hence the four stars.

Thanks Brady Games - nice guide indeed. :)

A must own if you like the game or want to beat the game! Feb. 27 2009

Format: Paperback
RPGs are a tricky thing. They are really fun to play, but often leave you out in the cold when you're not sure where to go. The internet helps to a certain degree, but it's hard to find the exact spot you were on and it doesn't contain all the information you want. This guide does! Oh my does it!

I wanted an RPG that I could really get into. I found it in Star Ocean. The only problem was that I kept getting stuck not knowing where to go. This guide gives you step by step instructions on where to go and what to do. It's impossible to get lost. This book also tells you when a pivotal moment is about to come up in the game that if you miss, you'll miss for good. These moments are the ones that shape your affinity with other characters. Knowing where one is or if I missed one and can go back to get it, is worth the price of the guide.

I highly recommend this product if you bought the game and plan on finishing it. It's great for before bed reading too!

It is exactly what it is supposed to be. A guide book for a video game. It has beautiful artwork and is well organized. Well written and full of good information on the game and little things you may miss if playing without it. A good buy if you are into getting the full experience from your game.

I have the Star Ocean Last Hope - International game. Though this isn't it, it still helps me on those spots I get stuck in. I like game guides because if I can't figure something out or I'm not sure on what I need, it'll help me out - especially with those recipes!
