I was very nervous about buying one of these, as most of the models I looked at had widely varied reviews and I was concerned about ending up with junk. Now that I have the Saachi, I am happy to say that the only issue I can imagine anyone having with an electric tortilla press is not reading the directions. Being a guy, it was a stretch, as it seems pretty straightforward, but I am glad I paid attention. The recipe is important, as is not being ham-fisted....you have to apply pressure rhythmically to release the air bubbles or you'll get shredded dough. Also, the unit isn't built like a tank....because it doesn't need to be. Gentle pressure is all that's needed. Lean on the handle and you'll get a mess and break the unit.
In short, take the time to read and follow the directions, and you'll have fresh tortilla shells with no mess to clean up in less time than it takes to go to the store and buy 'em.

I bought the Saachi Tortilla press for my husband for Christmas. We live in Canada, so the shipping was significant - and therefore the overall price of the gift left me expecting a lot. We have made tortillas many times before, and we love them, but they take a little longer than we'd like, so I was thinking this tortilla press would shorten the preparation time needed. I was disappointed about that. Each tortilla takes 2-3 minutes to press once you've made the dough. That's okay, I guess, but I wouldn't say it is any faster than doing it the old fashioned way. And, like another reviewer said, you really have to follow the instructions (which are poorly written). You don't just press the handle down once (like I was expecting) and voila out comes a tortilla. What you have to do is press it a little bit, then open it and rotate the tortilla, and then repeatedly do that until the dough is flattened enough. If you don't rotate it fast enough the tortilla cooks before its flat enough and you're stuck with it too thick. If you press for too hard or too long then the dough comes flying out the sides of the machine and its all shredded to pieces. So - it took us a while to figure this machine out and get the 'hang of it'. I guess it does what it promises, but I am left disappointed. I was expecting a machine to make the process easier and cut down on my preparation time. I got neither. It will probably sit on our shelf a lot.

Bought this after reading reviews, am not impressed and would not recommend wasting your money on it. You get a much better result by using a rolling pin and a cast iron pan, this unit does not heat up hot enough to get good results.
