5.0 out of 5 stars Bachelor's must-have! April 23 2012

I was very nervous about buying one of these, as most of the models I looked at had widely varied reviews and I was concerned about ending up with junk. Now that I have the Saachi, I am happy to say that the only issue I can imagine anyone having with an electric tortilla press is not reading the directions. Being a guy, it was a stretch, as it seems pretty straightforward, but I am glad I paid attention. The recipe is important, as is not being ham-fisted....you have to apply pressure rhythmically to release the air bubbles or you'll get shredded dough. Also, the unit isn't built like a tank....because it doesn't need to be. Gentle pressure is all that's needed. Lean on the handle and you'll get a mess and break the unit.
In short, take the time to read and follow the directions, and you'll have fresh tortilla shells with no mess to clean up in less time than it takes to go to the store and buy 'em.

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes getting used to Jan. 3 2013

I bought the Saachi Tortilla press for my husband for Christmas. We live in Canada, so the shipping was significant - and therefore the overall price of the gift left me expecting a lot. We have made tortillas many times before, and we love them, but they take a little longer than we'd like, so I was thinking this tortilla press would shorten the preparation time needed. I was disappointed about that. Each tortilla takes 2-3 minutes to press once you've made the dough. That's okay, I guess, but I wouldn't say it is any faster than doing it the old fashioned way. And, like another reviewer said, you really have to follow the instructions (which are poorly written). You don't just press the handle down once (like I was expecting) and voila out comes a tortilla. What you have to do is press it a little bit, then open it and rotate the tortilla, and then repeatedly do that until the dough is flattened enough. If you don't rotate it fast enough the tortilla cooks before its flat enough and you're stuck with it too thick. If you press for too hard or too long then the dough comes flying out the sides of the machine and its all shredded to pieces. So - it took us a while to figure this machine out and get the 'hang of it'. I guess it does what it promises, but I am left disappointed. I was expecting a machine to make the process easier and cut down on my preparation time. I got neither. It will probably sit on our shelf a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money Nov. 24 2012

Bought this after reading reviews, am not impressed and would not recommend wasting your money on it. You get a much better result by using a rolling pin and a cast iron pan, this unit does not heat up hot enough to get good results.

This is not for making Rotis very dissapointng. First I got mine it did not heat properly the indicator green light fell off. Called them they said return will send you another one asked them are you sure I can make rotis in there she said yes. When I got the other one yes it heats up but cannot make rotis tried first when you press it even lightly it shreds at the ends does not brown or fluff. E- mailed them that right away I packed it and want to send it back the reply I get no they can't take it back used one if you can't puff the roti do it on the stove flame what a joke if I want to use the stove why do I need this product. Very false advertise stop saying it is for rotis. If this no use to me I should have right to return it.

I borrowed this brand new tortilla maker from my friend. And the very first press, the plastic near the base broke into two. It still works but very cheap quality.

It does not do pita bread. That was a lie. It is only good for tortilla. If you needed for tortilla go for it. Not for Pita. They should remove pita from the title

This machine does not work the way I thought it should or would. No matter what I do one i put my dough ball in the far back of the hot plate and squeeze it rips my tortillas and shreds into pieces. Trying very hard to work with it but nothing helps. I even watched you tube videos and they still don't come out right
1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Product, Terrible Seller March 27 2014

Received a Tortilla press that didn't cook all the way through, Contacted VCT Electronics to return but seller got nasty, accused me of trying to return an old one. Told me nothing was wrong with the unit, said all units are tested. (Really? not even the manufacturer tests all product, the test a sampling. Only people selling refurbs and customer returns test all items)

Seller finally agreed to allow me to return if after I threatened a paypal chargeback but said I have to have all the original packing, box, etc. (Why? Is he going to test it and sell it to somebody else as new?) Who keeps the packing on kitchen appliances? I don't have it so looks like I just lost a lot of money and also had to deal with a very nasty seller. I don't recommend buying one of these but if you do I'd definitely find somebody else to buy it from.
