Bruce Armstrong has the rare gift of writing a "compelling" non-fiction book. Sable Island is often referred to as "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" as hundreds of shipwrecks have been documented in Sable's waters since 1583. Mr. Armstrong is a gifted story teller describing the circumstances of many such wrecks as well as the corresponding effect each of these events had on shaping the roles & objectives of Sable Islands employees for more than two hundred years.I bought this book because I am fascinated with the Wild Horses of Sable Island. I am thrilled and grateful for learning some of the history of this mystical place. I recommend this book highly whether you are interested in the horses, the shipwrecks, Canadian history or geography or even just to look at the photos which by the way are absolutely beautiful, most taken by long time Sable resident and scientist Zoe Lucas. Clearly Bruce Armstrong and Zoe Lucas share a deep respect, fascination and love of Sable Island. It's contagious.
