Book Description

"Sacred Corruption" is a mystery/thriller that tells a gripping story of Jennifer Anne Sloan's desperate fight against the pillars of corruption––power, money, murder and sex. Jennifer––the once gangly kid from Davenport, Iowa––has arrived at the stratosphere of the legal profession in New York, only to discover that life in the big pond is far from what she had expected and the end of her rainbow is not between the East River and the Hudson. Her life is shattered, irreparably, when she discovers that Dale Arnason, the quintessential Wall Street investment banker––and her lover––is at the centre of a mega-power struggle that drags them into a labyrinth of unimaginable political, business and religious corruption. And a ten year old unrequited, unmentionable love affair seals her fate and the fate of Father Francesco Ghirotto. "They shot Father Francesco Ghirotto on orders from the Vatican. It was damage control."

Tenaciously holding onto what she has, and unwilling to let go of what she had, Jennifer tries to unravel the connection between the man she loves and the man she use to love. With an old friend, private investigator Ernie Zink, she pursues the maze of unanswered questions, but she soon becomes the pursued and the answers become unfathomable. Her life, love and career go into free fall. Her fate lies in her faith and it is her faith that holds the darkest of secrets.

Loved it. I identified immediately with Jennifer Sloan as a woman in the midst of a world of business gone mad. Especially, as a single mom juggling job pressure and love interests. The suspense, the race, wouldn't let me put it down, Read it in a weekend. Hughes is a great story teller. He grabbed my heart and ran away with my mind.
