Product Description

Product Description

Sadi thread is made of fine metal, twisted into coils. It is used as surface decoration, whcih can be cut, stretched or curved into shapes and then couched, beaded or laid onto fabric. Shisha is mirror glass, hand cut into small geometric shapes. The pieces are attached to fabric by a frame of threads, sadi or covered rings or by a covering of sheer material. Sadi and shisha have strong traditions in lavish and decorative embroidery. Emerging from the Middle East and India respectively, they have appeared in embroidery across the globe as expressions of bold and celebratory embellishment. Betty Luke has combined these exuberant traditions with the seductiveness of art silk threads in 19 original contemporary designs. By laying out the techniques specific to sadi and shisha, drawing on popular embroidery stitches and giving clear step-by-step instructions, Betty also provides the basis for creating your own designs using these unusual materials.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beginner's guide, Dec 28 2002

This review is from: Sadi Thread & Shisha Glass Embroidery: Techniques and Design to Inspire Creative Stitching (Paperback)
As a beginner to shisha and sadi thread embroidery, I found this book very useful. The explaination for each of these meduims was very useful as was the guide for embroidering with the shisha and sewing with the sadi thread which also included the tools necessary to use for both. The techniques shown for each are very good as are the projects provided for both. I would recommend this book to any one not familiar with the use of these two wonderful embellishments to the world of sewing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shisha Glass Embroidery, Oct 24 2001

This review is from: Sadi Thread & Shisha Glass Embroidery: Techniques and Design to Inspire Creative Stitching (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book because I have become interested in Shisha embroidery. I was looking for a book that would show various techniques for shisha embroidery.

I was extremely dissapponited with this book. It is very glossy, with lots of colour pictures and some very very basic projects to try. The title says 'techniques and designs'. I could not find any techniques. I have not been able to find a book that shows you how to do shisha embroidery, so I can not make a another recommendation. I would recommend you save your money rather then buy this book.
