Product Description

Product Description

Once upon a time a few brave pilots in little planes flew the Air Mail. No wind, no rain, no cold or flu, can stop the Air Mail getting through! "Sadie the Air Mail Pilot" is the story of one brave and fearless pilot who overcomes all the elements, terrible conditions and even a plane crash to deliver the mail! Like all the dedicated Air Mail pilots, Sadie is kept busy by the arrival of never-ending sacks of mail and the Air Mail HQ chief who barks orders at his staff.

About the Author

Kellie Strom was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1967. He was raised in the woods of Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. He made his first attempt at creating a picture book before he could write, drawing a story on a large roll of newsprint, with spaces for text. Unfortunately by the time he learned to write, he could no longer remember what the story was about! As an adult he managed to avoid real work and lived by drawing illustrations for newspapers and magazines in Ireland, Denmark and the UK. Despite diversions into the fields of film and animation design, he found his way back home to picture books, and this time he has succeeded in finishing one. At last!

My 4 year son loves this book. We borrowed it from the library he wouldn't let me take it back till I bought him his own. We had to read it at least twice at bed time. Wonderful story and great illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, Sep 19 2008
By Warren G. H. Chinn - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sadie the Airmail Pilot (Hardcover)
My 3.5 year old daughter loves this book. The retro-style illustrations are a visual smorgasboard. The author clearly has a passion and understanding of late 1920's to early 1930's aviation: There are autogiros, bi-planes, 'Popular Mechanics' futuristic designs- all borne of the '30's. However, the story is also gripping and fun as well. It tells the tale of a female cat pilot (Sadie) who flies the mail run in a small mono-plane with pure grit and determination to a meteorological outpost high in the South American Andes mountians. And you guessed it: She gets into trouble...but there is a happy outcome! A treasure of a book for boys and girls aged between 3 years to 41 years plus (in my case). Here's hoping Kellie Strom produces more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Children's story..beautiful illustrations, Nov 5 2007
By Chad Caya - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sadie the Airmail Pilot (Hardcover)
I borrowed this book from our local library for my son. He loves it! The story is really exciting and I also like that it has a female heroine. The illustrations are amazing and the story line kept his attention. He is 2.5 years old but he tends to be more interested in stories that are a little bit above his age group. He's loved to read since he could walk. So, I would say this could easily entertain kindergarteners as well.
