Product Description

From Amazon.com

A sweet and silly story that becomes increasingly poignant as the minutes tick by, Saint Ralph is the fictional tale of a wayward 9th grader, Ralph (Adam Butcher), who is secretly living on his own while his widowed, hospitalized mother remains immersed in a coma. Frequently in trouble with Father Fitzpatrick (Gordon Pinsent), the principal of his all-boys, Catholic school, Ralph is considered something of a joke among peers until he decides to pull off the miracle that could save his mother, i.e., winning the Boston Marathon. Coached by a younger priest and former runner, Father Hibbert (Campbell Scott), whose cynicism has been lifted by the boy's pure hope, Ralph applies himself to his unlikely mission, fending off naysayers and getting help along a very challenging path from sundry allies and friends. A touching movie featuring a startlingly knowing performance from the young lead. Jennifer Tilly and Tamara Hope co-star, and the film was written and directed by Michael McGowan (My Dog Vincent). --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie, Aug 29 2007

I watched the movie on TV lastnight. When it was over I had to come online and order it. This rates up there with Whale Rider and Rabbit Proof Fence. You won't be disappointed with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Uplifting, May 24 2006
By

This review is from: Saint Ralph (DVD)
The movie is inspiring and uplifting. When you watch it, you will go through the full gamut of emotions. During some parts, you'll laugh so hard that your gut will hurt. During other parts, you'll need to have a box of tissues handy.

I recommend that you watch this movie the night before you run in a race. Recently, I watched it before a 10K and shaved several minutes off my best time.

This is my new favourite sports movie. It ranks right up there with Hoosiers, Breaking Away, Cinderella Man and Rocky. If you like sports movies, you must add this one to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great story for all ages, Feb 7 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Saint Ralph (DVD)
Ralph is a charming boy who wants to do the right thing, only the right thing is sometimes so hard to do. But he perseveres, with help from the most unlikely people, and he accomplishes great things, sort of. This is a wonderful film, with great shots, extremely good acting and an interesting score. Too bad more people won't see it in smaller markets here in Canada.
