An Amazingly Heartwarming Score That Really Connects March 14 2012
By Kaya Savas - Published on Amazon.com
Oscar winning composer Dario Marianelli delivers a delightfully light and flourishing score in Salmon Fishing In The Yemen. The score has a constant bounce to it and always has an energetic spirit througout. The music never sits still and always feels like it's fluttering along. Some of the tracks are just beautiful and will really let your mind fly. If you close your eyes at any moment during this score something is bound to be awakened inside of you.

Piano and flutes make up the body of the score so immediately that should give you an idea of the light spirited nature of the music. While there is a great deal of brightness in the score there is also contrasting moments of sadness. What's a story without some conflict, right? Anyway, you will discover some ethnic accents and bold stylings here and there. For the most part the score stays in a unified voice as it tells the story, and I enjoyed every second of it. Marianelli will introduce Scottish elements here and there to put character accents in the music. He will also toss some Middle Eastern sounds as setting accents. There is a simplistic spark of human emotion embedded in this score that I find so appealing. It just awakens your soul in the best way possible and is really something special.

I have to admit I felt that his score for Atonement was overrated and didn't deserve to win; I still feel that way. Here, Dario Marianelli delivers such a heartwarming score that really connected with me. There's the right amount of playfulness and such rich character elements behind every note. We grow as the story unfolds to our ears in the best way possible. This is definitely a feel-good score executed with precise perfection. I feel like this is a movie and score that will get easily looked over, but it shouldn't. It's quite amazing.

I loved the movie and the music relives it in my mind. I expected the last song in the film to be on the cd too but must have been by a different composer.

the sound track its ok, but its not one of my favourites. I dont feel the music how I felt the movie when I watched it. I really liked this movie. BUt the music wasnt as romantic as i thought. I am not saying its bad, but maybe not my style or what i thought it would be.

Loved the movie but wished the songs on the soundtrack were longer, also the credit song by the Young Romans was not on this CD so had to buy that separately.

Nice music from a pretty good movie. Very much easy listening, lots of great orchestra...and even some Bach. Recommended for fans of the movie.
