About the Author
Rick Sammon (Croton-on-Hudson, NY), a Canon Explorer of Light, has published more than 30 books. He writes for PCPhoto, Outdoor Photographer, Shutterbug, and Layers magazines. Each year, he gives more than a dozen photography workshops and presentations worldwide. He is a regular presenter at Photoshop World, he created the Canon Digital Rebel XT lessons on the Canon Digital Learning Center, and he produced a number of interactive DVDs. What a wonderful DVD. If your a beginner using a Canon XS, Buy this DVD. Rick has a fun and easy way for anyone to learn every button, function, and control on your camera with a large amount of quick shooting tips to boot. For years I was a little intimidated by DSLRs, with all those contols and buttons and terms like ISO, f stops, contrast, etc. I thought it give me a headache. His brief explanations have put me at ease and now I'm eager to look into Photography even further.This was a FUN DVD. Thanks Rick!

I am amazed that the things I learn from this DVD. It has so many tips to taking great pictures and help me understand what features to use for what I am trying to achieve. I am an amateur photographer so I feel I can maximize the use of my camera features by understanding what the hell I am doing. It is a wonderful DVD.

I really enjoyed this DVD. The presentation is quick and crisp, with very little repetition. About 1/3 of it discusses specific buttons on the Canon XS, another 1/3 explains these controls in context (he actually takes pictures using the settings on the video) and the remaining 1/3 is pure advice about photography.As the other reviewer said, the video does not delve into every switch setting. It mainly sticks to the settings you'll need to take good pictures in real world situations (in a restaurant, in bright sun, with sunset background, etc.)
At no time does he wander away from the Canon XS and he never wastes time on a feature that's not available on our camera.
By the end, you really feel like you can go out and take some great photos!
