Shot on McLachlan's 1998 headlining tour, the concert captures her in a more theatrical and frankly glamorous (if slightly funky) vein than her fabled Lilith Fair shows: in her floor-length blue gown, sparkling blue mascara, and bare feet, she evokes a more demure, Gen-X cousin to Cabaret's Sally Bowles. With 23 featured songs, Mirrorball on video adds 9 tracks not heard on the CD. The audio mixing is generally excellent, especially on the DVD version, which provides some hall ambience but retains a front-array, proscenium placement to instruments. Shot on film, rather than videotape, the concert preserves the stunning, subtle lighting effects of McLachlan's touring production, albeit at slight visual sacrifice in lower-light segments in which the resolution is grainier. --Sam Sutherland

Starting to sound tired,

This is a good show. Sarah always performs well. One thing I would have to say is there is a lack of new material. This is the final show of this tour and most songs are still from Fumbling, which was nearly six years ago. She is beging to sound tired, after singing these songs for so long and a the end of the tour. Also, it seems most of her new songs are very slow, almost lullaby like.I would recomend instead the Fumbling towards Extacy VHS tape (not on DVD yet) These were recorded when they were new and fresh and Sarah just sounds so much more enthusiastic with the songs.

This is indeed a brilliant video-- quite worthy of 5 stars. A couple things bothered me slightly. First is Ash's drumming on "Mary". Normally his drumming is restrained and perfect for the song, but on "Mary" he overplays and seems to be in doubletime when the rest of the band is subdued, playing half as fast. Another small issue I have is the staccato breathy vocals of "Elsewhere". The smooth mellifluous layered vocals from the recording are really missed. Maybe Sarah was a little worn out after "Fear" which showcases her breathtaking range in the outro. Later in "Possession" she sings the lyrics 'breath away' in the chorus a half-octave lower than in the recording.But I am being trivial and pedantic. The performance is amazing and beautiful. "Hold On" and "Good Enough" back to back actually did make my eyes watery. Please consider that these songs are about one's spouse dying and domestic abuse respectively, and you can sense Sarah's sympathy in her eyes and in her voice. "Ice Cream" is surprisingly a highlight; Sarah and husband Ash (drummer) sing together and the audience gets to sing a chorus. (Don't heed the warnings about "grainy" picture quality, btw) And the interview!! wow! Sarah is so grateful to her fans and modest. In my opinion, no modern artist is more deserving of success than she. This is art with honesty and meaning. And the voice of an angel.

What can I say, this is an outstanding concert DVD!Beautifully shot by expert video director Sophie Muller and she's done such a wonderful job in capturing Sarah's natural beauty (Fumbling Towards Ecstacy in particular is absolutely brilliant, smashing sound, awesome stage lighting with the thousands and thousands of fairy lights and Sarah's voice is just otherworldly.) Watch how Sarah rips it up with her steamy yet elegant version of Witness and Fear is just amazing to watch her sing. An awesome concert experience and if you're a Sarah fan and don't own this, then guess what? You're not a real fan!
