Facinating story marred by poor writing.

I thought this was going to be a great book. The story included the struggles of a pioneer woman, romance, and descriptions of women's lives within a plural marriage.
Unfortunately, I was often distracted by the writing style and the poor grammar. I found myself rereading whole paragraphs to understand what had happened. The writer switched from past tense, to present tense to past tense within one paragraph. She often jumped from one thought to something completly different in one paragraph. The writer used a style of desciption that featured incomplete sentences. (Just the noun and adjectives, no verb.) It seemed like they were rapid flashbacks. They did not register with me. Most of all I disliked the long quotes from speeches by leaders of the Morman church.
I expected to love this book, and I did like it at first, but there were just too many distractions for me to get into the characters and story.

Having been brought up in the Mormon Church, I have some general knowledge about polygamy and the pioneers, but, nothing I had previously learned could compare with the beautiful story of Sarah: The 4th Wife. I could not put it down. This new author has masterfully reported the facts without losing the deepfelt emotions of the characters. This book captured my heart.

I was touched by this book. It was a very moving saga of a strong woman set in the controversial times of polygamy and the settling of the Mormons in the Salt Lake Valley. From the old west trading post to the flowers growing in the Valley, you can practically smell the places so well described in this book. Take this journey with Sarah, you won't forget her!
