"As a vegan, the only chickens I consume are Savage's. I never miss a meal."-Dan Piraro, cartoonist of Bizarro

We've all been forced to endure jobs we don't like. We get up, go to work, go to bed, and do it again. No one knows these pains better than Doug Savage, whose dream of being a cartoonist was eclipsed by his ho- hum office job. That is, until he started doodling chicken cartoons on Post-its and turned them into one of the Internet's most popular cartoon blogs.

Savage Chickens is a collection of cartoons starring Doug's beloved chickens and their officemates that will get a laugh out of even the most jaded number-crunching colleague. Doug blends cynicism, optimism, and interactive activities to create a portable pep talk for the overworked and underappreciated that will keep you sane-and amused- during the morning bus ride, the meeting-filled Monday, the tenth load of laundry, the bathroom break, or the red-eye to the coast.

It doesn't matter if you have already seen the ones that were already on the website - they are just as funny as the first time around.

I laugh every time I read it...

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been waiting for this! Mar 16 2011

The Far Side was no longer in the papers... I had read and re-read Calvin and Hobbes many times. They all still make me laugh but I wanted something new - where I didn't know the 'punch line' as it were. I don't remember how I stumbled upon Savage Chickens but they have made me laugh since that day and I have pointed friends to Doug's brilliant creations over and over. I think I have converted a few to the "Chicken Side" ;) The book has gems I've seen before but is mixed in with plenty of new fun, observations of life in an office -- complete with very clever activities in the back. I hope there are more Savage Chickens books - other volumes with themes that may be appropriate for his masterful "Still Life With Ninja" or all-too-true "Therapy Hut." Check out his site, sign up to receive a cartoon a day via email - oh, and buy the book! It's a keeper! Even the format lends itself wonderfully to display these hilarious sticky notes.
