From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6-- This utilitarian look at America's wetlands tries hard to give an overview of all the reasons these endangered habitats should be preserved. Unfortunately, the endless lists of birds, animals, and plants found in a variety of types of wet areas leave readers uninvolved and distanced. In addition, although there is a brief glossary and many words are defined within the text itself, there is no firm definition of wetlands . Liptak discusses the many reasons for the loss of these areas, but the current federal government backsliding is not mentioned. Generalities abound as to hopes for the future and possible environmental actions, but few specific plans are noted. Illustrated with full-color photographs and with easy-to-read print, this is an attractive if not exciting book. --Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling School, NY
