Product Description

Review

Williams effectively conveys the voices of very different protagonists. (McGill Alumni Magazine 20060529)

Tender-hearted and amusing first collection providing fresh angles on displacement, relationship ennui and disappointed expectations. (NOW Toronto )

Like a postcard from a friend with “Wish you were here” scrawled on the back. Save the airfare and read this book instead. (Quill & Quire )

Saving Rome has been billed as a book about the expatriate experience in Italy, but it’s about much more than that. (The American )

The Daily News (Halifax, NS), March 5, 2006

"Brilliant...Saving Rome is filled with one woman's vision, warmth, and charm."

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, genuine ---and still funny, May 18 2006

I absolutely adored this book. It provided another perspective on Rome (beyond the myths, daydreams, etc). It was also incredibly funny --Williams is an astute observer of human foibles, and some of her characters were quite whacky in a believable, not buffoonish way. Even better, I loved how Williams really understands what life is like as a woman in mid-life. This is not a mid-life crisis book either, but each of the characters was going through a major transition in terms of figuring out who she was and where she was going. Guess I can relate, having just turned 40!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Book, Mar 12 2006
By Laura B. Rosenthal - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Saving Rome (Paperback)
Wow! I picked up this book on a whim and couldn't put it down. Every story is a gem. They range from funny and off-beat to serious and sad. I loved the characters and how cleverly the author weaves Rome (as a city & a state of mind) throughout the book. After each story I found myself wanting to sit down to a big bowl of pasta and a good chianti--Saving Rome's that delicious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reality Check in Rome, Sep 30 2010
By Bea Wilder - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Saving Rome (Paperback)
Megan Williams has given us excellent short stories from many different gender vantage points about the pleasures and limitations of Life in La Dolce Vita. She is wry, acerbic and consequently quiteamusing. If I could write short stories(and I did have one published) they would be like Williamses. I met her at her studio at the McDowell Colony where perhaps she wrote some if not all and she did not disappoint in person!
