Fortunately, there's also Jenny Cain, foundation director and amateur sleuth, to solve them. The latest in this series concerns a commercial waterfront development and those whose lives are affected by it. Dialect is much easier to listen to than read, and Shea provides a range--Yankee, Southern and European--which runs counterpoint to her own first-person inflectionless narrative. I have to confess... to disappointment in this case. Of the half dozen or so Nancy Pickard/Jenny Cain mysteries I've devoured, this was definitely my least favorite. (For what it's worth, I.O.U. is at the top of my list!) It's hard to say what about the book didn't set well with me. The characters involved in the waterfront development project were simply difficult to like, difficult to become invested in. Nancy Pickard's character development is always good; unfortunately, that talent didn't serve me well in this particular case. I did like the conclusion of the tale, just didn't enjoy the journey as much as in the other Jenny Cain books.
