3.0 out of 5 stars Couple with a lot of misunderstandings, Mar 5 2011
By Brenda J. Smith "Bree" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Scarlet Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
From the back of the book:

By day she was Lady Jewel de Vree, "The Dark Goddess," famed for her breathtaking beauty, her scandalous clothing, and her icy disdain for her suitors. By night she donned wig, mask and pistol as the mysterious highwayman who'd been divesting the wealthy of their pocket money. But complications ensued when her most recent victim was none other than her new neighbor. Handsome, cynical, insufferably arrogant, the new Earl of Hunt seemed to know her innermost secrets, and to expect repayment in full -- though perhaps not in kind . . . . After being held up on the highway by a red-headed doxy, Damien St. Cloud thought perhaps country life had grown more interesting in his absence. He was certain of it when he met his scandalously beautiful neighbor. His cronies wagered that the Dark Goddess would be the first woman to give St. Cloud a setdown. The Earl thought not, for he suspected Lady Jewel's frosty air of superiority masked a passionate and daring heart. And discovering it should prove a most rewarding diversion.

The story itself was an interesting one at first with the double life of Lady Jewel, but later on it got so frustrating reading about the two of them fighting, making up, fighting, making up. Neither one trusted the other to tell them their innermost secrets. There were tons of misunderstandings going on as well. Add in Damien's best friend, Tony, who was a truly remarkable man, and Damien's ex-mistress Helene, who liked to stir things up, and the true villian, Jewel's cousin, Clarence, and you've got quite the mess. Neither Damien nor Jewel were favorites of mine. They were too stubborn and too arrogant to take a chance on making their relationship really work although they tried repeatedly.
